Grade 10 and 11 Parents – University Applications

Grade 11 Students and “The List”

All Grade 11 students should have a draft list of universities/colleges they are thinking of applying to by the end of May. Please help and encourage them to come up with this list. They should be using their Google University Spreadsheet to keep track of their research findings for each of the schools (deadlines, average SAT scores, total IB points required, subjects required, reference letters, essays, etc.). Essay drafts should be written over the summer. I highly recommend your son or daughter visiting a number of these schools during the summer holiday.

Standardized Tests for US Applications

I’ve updated the BIS University Handbook to reflect the new SAT coming up in May and June. Please read through this carefully. Here you will find a comparison chart between the SAT and the ACT, study tips, useful links, and more!

Grade 11 students should have signed up for the test in May. If not, make sure they take the June test (registration deadline is May 5th). They should all be practicing and studying for the test. Next year, in Grade 12, the students will have the opportunity to take the SAT test at BIS in October and November 2016. There is also a December test date, but they will have to pick another test center (closest one is probably in Jakarta). For the ACT, students will have 3 chances: September, October and December 2016.

Grade 10 students may want to get a feeling for the SAT by taking the November 2016 exam and/or the ACT exam in December 2016. After that they will have 3 more opportunities in Grades 11&12 to take either or both of the tests at BIS before they apply for college. The dates for the SAT exams are in the months of June, October, November 2017. For the ACT: September, October, December 2017.

Feel free to make an appointment with me to discuss your son/daughter’s application process and progress (counselor@baliis.net).
