Week 3-Celebrating who we are, where we have come from and looking ahead

This past week we had the opportunity to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day.  Our Indonesian teachers planned a fantastic day, focused on the culture, achievements and  future of Indonesia.  It is wonderful to see so many children from so many different cultures coming together to experience, interact and appreciate the culture of our host nation.  I am proud to be a member of the BIS community.

PTFA Meet the Teachers Cocktail Evening

This past Thursday BIS and the PTFA hosted an evening social event for parents and teachers.  BIS continues to develop its sense of community and development of a partnership between the teachers and parents.  It is very comforting to work in a place where we are all striving for the same thing-improve student learning and experiences.

BIS is Turning 30!

On September 2nd BIS will celebrate its 30th anniversary.  Planning is already well underway as we will host a celebration on campus involving students, parents, teachers, alumni and friends of BIS.  The day will highlight our Internationalism and the feeling of community, growth and experience that makes BIS the very special place that it is.

SS Incomplete Homework Procedure

A reminder that it is our belief that all students are required to do all of the assignments and projects that are assigned to them.  As an outcome based school, we cannot evaluate a student on their learning if the work has not been submitted.  Additionally, we want to impress upon our students the importance of growth within the work that is assigned.  Our teachers need to see where a student is in order to help get to where they can go.   To that end, we have established a procedure, in consultation with the students, the faculty, and from the basis of best practice to try and give students every opportunity possible to show what they have learned and improve upon that learning.

All students that do not submit work will be referred to the secondary office the following day after school for one hour or until the work is done. Myself or a designated teacher will supervise the room for the first quarter.  Students will continue to come in after school every day until their assignment is complete. If the assignment is not passed into the teacher within three days, parents will receive an email from the Secondary School Office. Students who are regularly referred for not meeting their academic responsibilities will be required to meet with school administration and will include a meeting with parents as this is a requirement of all students that attend our school.

Thank you for your continued interest and support of BIS and our students.

Kind Regards,

Justin Walsh
