New University Applications Platform and a University Visit

BridgeU – our new University Applications platform

Dear Grade 10-12 and other Parents,

I am excited to announce our new university applications management tool: BridgeU. This tool will allow myself, students and parents to keep track of university applications.

It:

  • has college and university search options in USA, UK, Canada, The Netherlands and Hong Kong. Australia and New Zealand will be added in 2017;
  • matches colleges and universities to student preferences, categorizing reach, target and safety options and indicating the probability of acceptance;
  • offers a place for students to keep all of their research;
  • has a “writing builder” tool, giving sample UK and USA style application essays, space to write essays, and the ability to provide direct counselor feedback;
  • allows counselors to set tasks and deadlines;
  • submits documentation directly to universities;
  • includes a resume builder and gives ideas on how to improve and fill gaps;
  • requests and receives recommendation letters from teachers and counselors;
  • allows parents to keep track of their son/daughter’s applications;
  • offers tools for data analysis;
  • and more!

I would like to showcase this tool for any interested parents on October 31 from 8-9 in Room 1. All Grade 10-12 parents will receive their own account.

Next week Thursday October 27 from 12:30-1:10, a representative from Jacobs University will be visiting BIS in the Counselor’s office. Parents and students are welcome to attend.
Jacobs University is a US-style, English-language research university in the hanseatic city of Bremen, Germany. They have a 75% international student body with students representing over 114 nations other than Germany. During all three years of their Bachelor’s degree, students live on their green 30-hectare campus enhancing the intercultural experience. Their 15 undergraduate programs are taught by over 200 professors and faculty members; small class sizes ensure close contact to faculty and teaching staff. Their transdisciplinary, liberal arts approach gives students the opportunity to study and research in the all areas of the natural sciences and engineering, as well as the humanities and social sciences. Jacobs offers partial merit-based scholarships and need-based financial aid to cover their annual tuition fee regardless of the student’s nationality.  For more information, please visit their website at www.jacobs-university.de.
