Week 38-Moving Forward

As we near the end of the 2016-17 Academic year it is important to not only reflect on where we have been, but also think about where we are going.  Many of our students are already thinking about future plans and how they can best prepare themselves.  One of the most challenging things for the long school holiday is the balance between relaxation and stagnation.  I most certainly encourage our students to take some time for themselves and as a family to enjoy their holiday and take a breather from the everyday workload of school.  However, it is also important to remember to exercise those academic muscles less atrophy sets in!  Please encourage your students to read, engage with the some of the resources that their teachers have compiled for the summer months on their Google Classrooms.  It is important to rest and relax, but let’s stay engaged as well.

Celebrating Growth and Success

On Tuesday we were able to take some time to acknowledge and celebrate the growth and success of our student body.  It was fantastic to see so many different students acknowledged for their hard work and achievement.  The event culminated with the awarding of the MYP Certificate for our Year 10 students.  This marked the end of their MYP Years and the beginning of their journey through the IB Diploma.  I want to thank all of the teachers for their deliberation over the awards, the parents for supporting their students and most importantly, the students themselves for all of their hard work.  Great Job!

Secondary Drama Production
This past Wednesday Dr. Sheppard and her drama group presented “Megan and the Golden Key.” What a fantastic performance after many weeks of dedication and hard work.  The students were not only on the stage, but they were also key contributors to the promotion and backstage portion of this performance.  I look forward to more of their performances in the future.

BSSA Athletics

This past Wednesday over 40 Secondary students represented BIS at the BSSA Athletics competition.  It is fantastic to see so many of our students active and supporting one another through sport.  I want to thank all of our Athletic coaches, Mr. Sutherland, Mr. Lennan and the PTFA for the help in organizing and supporting our students throughout this event.

End Of Term Reports

This coming Wednesday, June 7th, our end of term reports will be sent home via email.  These reports will highlight our students achievement through this part of the term, highlighting their ATL Skills and providing comments about their growth through the whole academic year.  Please go through the report with your student, asking them about their accomplishments and where they see areas for growth.

End of Year Sports Banquet

We will be celebrating our students athletic accomplishments and acknowledging what we have accomplished as a school throughout the whole year.  The banquet will take place on June 6th at 6pm in the MPR. Tickets are on sale now and are 150 000 IDR per person. Students are encouraged to attend and dress in a smart casual fashion.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Moving Up Day

This Friday we had our moving up day for our 5th grade students who will be joining the Secondary School next year.  Our counselor and MYP coordinator helped with their transition, providing them access to classes and having them go through some common questions regarding secondary school.  I look forward to this lively bunch joining the us next year.

Thank you for your continued interest and support of BIS and our students.

Kind Regards,

Justin Walsh
