A very warm welcome to our English Language Learners

A very warm welcome to our

English Language Learners

I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new families!

I feel lucky and privileged every day to be part of such a warm, caring community at BIS. It has been a great week going around school getting to know our new English Language Learners. Each one on a different part of their English language journey. From complete beginners, attending an international school for the first time, to experienced, well travelled students, perhaps new to the PYP, MYP and all that our school brings. There are many new things for our new students to remember; perhaps being part of a 1:1 laptop school for the first time and the confusion that brings, or perhaps simply new to Asia, it’s customs and culture. One thing that stands out time and time again are the number of students ready to help, guide, mentor and translate for our beginners to English – they have been so gentle and kind this week to all our newcomers, helping them feel welcome and valued.

I wish all our students and new families the best of luck in the coming weeks and months.  Please do not hesitate to come by and chat if you have any questions about your child’s language journey, your language plan at home, or any concerns you may have about keeping the minority language strong!

As a teacher and parent of 2 multilinguals one thing is for sure: by exposing our children to two languages or more at home, we are giving our children a mind-altering experience and wonderful opportunity.

I look forward to meeting you all,
