Library Quote Contest Winners Announced

The BIS Library would like to congratulate 6th grader Saskia Parsell and 10th grader Joyce Antoinette Dizon as being co-winners of the Library Quote Contest.  The library asked Secondary students to find and submit a quote that would create positive feelings and provoke thought all within the context of reading or learning. Secondary students voted, and the below quote was the overwhelming winner. Thank you to everyone who submitted a quote and to everyone who voted.

Both girls separately selected a quote from author George R. R. Martin (Martin is best knowing for writing the fantasy book series A Song of Fire and Ice, which were later adapted into the television show Game of Thrones). The quote is:
“Readers live a thousand lives before they die; those who never read live only one.”
The quote was adapted slightly; the original quote was “before HE dies”; we thought it would be better to include all types/genders of readers. The overall sentiment remains the same.
These words will be painted in the library quite soon, with both winners’ names prominently displayed (the library is talking to potential artists now). Hopefully, this quote serves as a vehicle for inspiration and curiosity for all library users for the foreseeable future. Please join me in congratulating Saskia and Joyce on their thoughtful and nuanced choice; their contribution will necessarily make the library a more inviting and knowledgeable place.
