BIS Security update post-Paris
Following the devastating terrorist attacks in Paris, we felt it timely to update you on BIS Security.
The earliest stage in any terrorist planning; be it a coordinated attack as in Paris, or ‘Lone Wolf’ attacks as have been the more widely utilized MO recently; involves observation and information gathering. Our security team is trained to observe and report anything unusual in and around BIS. This includes unknown people in the vicinity, out of place objects, unknown persons on motorbike or car passing by, people taking photos, and unknowns who want access to the school. This is supported by Polsek Sanur who are stationed at BIS during school hours, and complete regular patrols after hours.
We employ a layered security system that begins with satpams on the bypass, then the car parks, then the barriers and finally the front gate. This enables us to detect any unusual behavior before it happens close to school.
We continue to be in close contact with the US and Australian embassies and consulates for information updates and will be hosting the US Regional Security Officer next week for an update and discussion on the security climate.
As a community we are all part of the BIS security system. Your role includes:
- Reporting anything you may observe that does not feel right to a satpam, the Head of School, one of the principals, or to me.
- Assisting satpams by wearing your ID visibly at all times when at BIS.
- Presenting bags for inspection.
- Following parking rules including not parking motorbikes on the street in front of school.
- Ensuring you have completed background checks on drivers and pembantus and that they are aware of the security requirements at BIS.
