We are looking for volunteers for our Career Day…. Yes YOU!!
BIS is organizing its very first Career Day for Grades 9-12 students. Our aim is to provide a platform whereby students can begin discovering their potential career paths. This will assist them in making better informed course choices and will help them to identify possible college/uni majors. The program will provide an opportunity for community/parent volunteers to meet the students and share their various career experiences. We hope that you will consider volunteering to represent your industry or career field. The following are the details of the Career Day and our expectations for volunteers.
Date: Thursday January 28, 2016
Time: 8:00-10:00 AM
Venue: Secondary classrooms
Topics that could be covered in the presentation:
- Subjects or courses relevant to your field
- Character traits that are helpful in your job
- A typical work day and lifestyle
- Career path, salary guide and advancement possibilities
- Rewarding and challenging aspects of your career
- What you studied in college
- If you changed careers
- Advice about finding the right career path
Suggestions for Presenters – but not mandatory:
Provide visuals such as photos, video, pamphlets, etc. Projectors and sound systems are available in all classrooms.
Format
Presenters will each receive their own room (with possibly a few exceptions if they are from the same industry). There will be four rounds of 25 minutes each, with 5 minute breaks in between. In other words, volunteers will be presenting the same talk 4 times to 4 different groups of students. We have chosen this format in order to provide intimate settings and smaller groups while still exposing students to a variety of careers. Presenters are free to decide how they want to present. We suggest you leave time for questions and open discussion.
If you are willing to participate as a volunteer, please email Karin Holley (counselor@baliis.net) by December 16 and feel free to contact her with any questions.
Thank you for your consideration. We greatly appreciate your support!
