IISSAC Basketball 2016
Another IISSAC season has come and gone: there were laughs, there were tears and many, many memories. Throughout the years, BIS is becoming famous for being a defensive powerhouse, holding some of the top teams, like Mountainview, Wesley and Bandung Alliance – to their lowest scores throughout the round robin. Where the girls are unparalleled in their rebounds and their ability to push teams into foul shots early in the game, the boys’ man to man defense and fast breaks are quickly becoming legend.
The Girls team finished 5th overall in the round robin, with a score of 1 – 3 – 1: but then lost a well fought game against the Bandung Dragons, early Sunday morning. However, it is a pleasure to watch them play because the girls remain ever positive and supportive of each other, even when they were down – everyone was laughing and having a good time. Molly Raymond, the girls captain, was voted MVP by all the other teams – as she definitely made her presence felt every minute she was on the court.
The Boys played hard Saturday afternoon and finished 2 – 3 – 0 in the round robin: then, they came back strong Sunday morning in the knock-out round and defeated Wesley handily. Unfortunately, their run was stopped short by the BAIS boys team, who then went on to defeat SIS in the finals. Ethan Simmerman, the boys captain, was also chosen as MVP – and we heard through the grapevine that all other teams were taking bets to see if they could get just one turnover or one point on him while he was protecting the basket.
Best of all, is that wherever you looked throughout the tournament, you would see BALI students socializing and laughing with students from all the other schools, immediately after each game. And that speaks volumes about our student community here at BIS: That we consistently make an impression both on and off the courts, not only for our sportsmanship, but for our camaraderie as well.
