Primary Playground Equipment

Our Primary Playground Equipment was repainted by our hard working maintenance team during the school holidays. In other great news, the PTA has agreed to pay for new shade sails to be erected above the Primary Playground Equipment. We hope to have this construction begin in the next week or two. We also had the Multi Purpose Room re-floored during the break.

Call for Indonesian Language Children’s Books

Ms Alborn, our High School Drama teacher has put a call out for Indonesian Language Children’s Books. If you can help out, please drop the books into the Primary Office.

As you may know, my partner Graeme runs his own charity Worldwide Action, supporting underprivileged children in Asia and Africa specifically. Whilst much of the work has been focused on rebuilding classrooms the charity also provides essential school equipment and stationery to support the education of children in need.

He is working with the Lombok Relief Team here in the secondary school who will be pushing forward to encourage our students to donate any spare pens/pencils or Indonesian reading books they have that can be sent to Lombok and distributed to children still traumatised by the earthquakes there.

As such, I just wanted to reach out to ask if any of you have any old unwanted children’s reading books (pref Indonesian) at home that you would like to donate then please drop them at the Primary Office.

Graeme and a volunteer from the UK will be going to Lombok personally in approximately 7 days time and so will be able to hand deliver the donations to a Yayasan specialising in child trauma, ensuring they find their way to children who need them the most.

Primary Math

I have seen some great inquiry and stand alone Math happening in the classroom over the past month so thought I would ask the teachers to share a few pictures. More specific information to your child’s class can be see on their class blog, but it is always nice to see what’s happening in other grade levels.

Kindergarten Math

Grade 2 Math

Grade 2 students are exploring different strategies to add and subtract numbers.
We reinforce concepts through games such as Make 10 Go Fish and 8 Plus.
Students also use tools to explore efficient ways to organize numbers greater
than 10.

Grade 3 Maths

Students in Grade 3 have been inquiring into place value by hunting for numbers related to our UOI about the solar system. They worked collaboratively to find the best way to write numbers, making good use of a comma to chunk the numbers out into thousands, millions and even billions! Every morning in Grade 3, the students spend about 5 minutes working on a fun and personalised online app that helps them to speed up their basic facts recall. They love watching their progress and mastery charts get fuller and fuller each day!

Grade 5 Math

Grade 5 students using a variety of tools to create and measure the flight of their O wings during an experiment this week.
