– Monday, 29 Oct – Pyjama day
– Tuesday, 30 Oct – Crazy hair day & Lunch Activities: Try not to laugh
– Wednesday, 31 Oct – Book character day
– Thursday, 1 Nov – Musical groups/Band day & Lunch Activities: BIS Live (Bale in front of Room 1)

Prizes will be awarded each day for the best costume as well as for the lunch activities. At the end of the week a winner will be crowned as the King of the Kostumes! November 2. The StuCo have agreed to not let any of the activities interfere with our regular timetable or any classes. Teaching and learning should continue as normal and students should not be allowed to leave class for Spirit Week reasons.
Academic Honesty Policy
Students have been allocated time in Homeroom to ensure they understand this policy and they will have completed a quiz on this by the end of next week.
Assessment Policy
Our Assessment Policy working group will be meeting on Friday, November 2 to finalise this policy. The policy will be shared with teachers, students and parents the following week.
Mathematics Support
It was pleasing to see many more students accessing the available after school support for Mathematics this week. A reminder that there are three separate days where there are Math Support ASAs for any students to attend.
Friday Uniform Reminder
More students were in Batik this Friday but there were still many Secondary students who were not. From the Student Parent Handbook, p. 24 “Fridays are Batik days throughout Indonesia, so students are required to wear the BIS Batik shirt”.

On the third day of the trip right after the morning salt farming, we began our plastic distribution to every household in the village. The group which I was placed in was in charge of the middle area of the village, and we had to walk the longest distance as the distances between the houses were greater compared to other areas, and we also had a greater number of house to distribute to. The idea of the plastic bag distribution was to encourage the villagers to reduce the burning of plastic as well as littering. One of the biggest factors to why there are so many plastic and garbage in Indonesia with lots of pollution is not only due to tourism, but also the responsibilities of the villages. The result of the littering caused the environment to be surrounded by plastic. During rainy seasons, the river streams, canals, and etc, which are filled with plastic will be flushed out into the ocean, and the all the plastic will either be washed back to the shore, and cause the
beach to be filled with garbage, damage marine life including corals, or be flushed to other beaches. Although there are companies out there which are trying to reduce these results by reusing plastics, but they are all going bankrupt because they are unable to gather enough plastic to feed into the Shruder (machine which takes plastic and shreds them into tiny pieces, then melt them and are made into something else using a mold and are to be reused). This is due to inefficient plastic gathering, as people don’t gather up their plastic trash, and pack them to be reused, but rather burn them, or just litter them somewhere else. The plastic distribution program is aiming to try and reduce these end results, by distributing two forms of plastic bags into every household in the village, a blue bag for hard plastic, and a red bag for soft plastic. We (the Bali Island School students) are the ones which are distributing the bags and trying to start up this program not only to take initiative, but also for another effect, we hope to leave them a greater impression of us, as we are international students, and it is rare for villagers to get guests from all over the world, so we used this chance for them to have a better memory of this day in order them to keep on using these bags which we have provided them with. To further motivate them, it was decided that there will be a 1 kg cooking oil as a price every two weeks for the house with the most plastic collected and segregated, and these bags will then be sent off to the Shruder and form recycled plastic products. Although our actions might affect their daily routines, however, the change in their daily routines can have a great impact on the environment, and the world, as Indonesia is the ranked number 2 in plastic waste production in the world, and if one village starts changing, other villages might follow, and hopefully our actions will bring a reduction to plastic in the environment, making Bali, Indonesia, the world to the beauty it used to be.
