Primary eNews – Friday 30 November 2018
Upper Primary Share
The students from Grades 2 – 5 will be hosting an Upper Primary Share from 8:00 – 8:50am on Friday 7 December. Parents and friends are invited to join the students as we celebrate their learning.
Written Reports
Our Semester 1 Written Reports will be emailed to families on Wednesday 12 December. Please take the time to read through the reports with your children and discuss their contents. Each primary student’s report will include students’ achievement for Math and Language outcomes in addition to written comments for Math Language and Units of Inquiry. Students will receive an achievement score for subject strands in PE, Music and Indonesian plus written comments. Each student will also receive a general comment form their homeroom teacher. Students who receive additional learning or language support will also receive comments on these areas.
Primary Playground Upgrade
Our Primary Playground upgrade is now complete with the shade sail being installed earlier this week. The playground equipment was repainted a month or so ago which made it look so much fresher. Now that the shade sails have been installed, the students can enjoy the equipment all day long without it being in direct sunlight and the surfaces getting too hot. The students chose the blue and yellow sails to match our school colours. Thank you to the PTA for generously allocating the funds for the shade sails and to Ibu Ari, our Purchasing Officer for her support in obtaining quotes and organising suppliers.
Wet weather spare shoes & shirts and punctuality
It is great to see the wet season is upon us as the campus is looking very lush and the children are certainly enjoying the rain and puddles. It might be a good idea to send our child to school in flip flops / thongs, crocs or gum boots in the wet weather with their school shoes in their bags. A change of shirt and small towel in a plastic bag might also be a good idea. Please email Ibu Deni (primarysecretary@baliis.net ) if you would like additional bag tags to put on your children’s umbrellas. Obviously traffic becomes a bit heavier on the rainy mornings so please leave home 10 – 15 minutes earlier to ensure that your child is in class and ready to start learning by 7:45am.
Punctuality
Parents are reminded that students arriving at school after 7:45am are expected to visit the Primar Office to get a ‘Primary Student Late Note’
from Ibu Deni

Volleyball
The 9-10 year old BSSA Volleyball season has now finished. Well done and congratulations to all of our players on their performances, teamwork and sportsmanship. It was great to see all of the students supporting each other and enjoying their sport over the past month or so, I especially enjoyed watching their final games of the season at Dyatmika on Wednesday afternoon. BIS will host 13-15 year old finals next Wednesday 5 December if any of the players want to come down and support. BSSA Basketball will commence in January

For Families Leaving Bali IS on 14 December
Dear families in transition,
I am meeting with each of the students who will be moving on to new schools at the break and sharing with them a RAFT guide. A raft helps us get from one place to another safely. Each leaving student will receive a RAFT guide to help them process their departure and make a smooth transition to their new home. They will focus on Reconciliation: making things right with people they may have had conflicts with, Affirmation: Letting people know how much they have meant to them and sharing gratitude, Farewell: Saying Goodbye to people, places, pets, and possessions, and Thinking Destination: Learning about their new home and focusing on all the exciting things to look forward to.
Transition can be challenging for families and for children but we aim to make it as smooth a process as possible. If you have questions or concerns as you go through this transition, please do not hesitate to reach out for support.
Thanks, Rachael Gerbic, BIS K12 Counselor
New Tradition to Farewell Students Leaving Bali IS
All students who are leaving Bali IS at the end of this term are asked to bring (not wear) a white Bali IS shirt on Friday 14 December so that they can have their friends sign it as a leaving souvenir. We will hold a Whole School (ie Pre School to Grade 12) Assembly at the end of each semester (14 December and 12 June) where will farewell our departing friends. After the assembly we will invite the leaving students to set up on one of the blue tables to have their friends sign their shirts which they will take home in a Bali Island School bag along with a small gift. Students leaving at other times throughout the year will be recognised in regular Primary Assemblies.
This will be the last Primary newsletter before our Winter / Summer / December Christmas Holiday. I hope that all of our school community enjoy their holiday with family and friends.
