Secondary Newsletter 37 – May 15, 2020

Dear Parents,

The end of the school year is in sight. Distance learning appears to be occurring much more smoothly as students and teachers have adapted to what has become the new normal. Below is an update on what is happening in the Secondary School in the coming weeks.

Assessment

Students are being assessed in all of their subjects and it is a very busy and stressful time. We are encouraging students to speak with their teachers if they are feeling overwhelmed. We are asking teachers to consider required work in all subjects by viewing the ManageBac calendars and negotiating timelines and dates for completion of assessment tasks with the students.

ISA Results

We have received the results from ISA and will share individual reports next week. Our teachers are analysing the results to identify individual and class strengths and weaknesses. These results will inform any changes for the curriculum for next year in Maths, Science and English.

Grade 12 Graduation

Plans are in full swing for graduation on May 29. We will share a link for our community to view the live stream in the days leading up to the big event.

Secondary Awards

We will conduct this event via a live stream on Wednesday, June 10.

Grade 6 Self-Management Session

We recognise that the past two months have been very difficult for our Grade 6 students, their parents and their teachers. We will conduct a Zoom meeting for all Grade 6 parents and students on Monday, May 18 from 8-9am, Bali time. The aim of this session will be to assist students and their parents to establish daily routines and to provide some more structure to their days. Mr. Field, Ms. Gerbic and Mr. Ferris will run this session and there will be an opportunity to ask questions. The desired outcome from the meeting is that each student will establish a morning routine to follow each day and create a day planner as an exemplar to follow.
