Message from the Head of School – April 9, 2021
With great anticipation, the IBO’s school accreditation report has landed in my inbox! We have now received full re-accreditation from all three of our international accreditation bodies for a further 5 years. The IB Report is chock full of commendations to our school for aggressively and systematically completing identified action items. All of our community constituent groups played a huge part in the self-study in preparation for the virtual visit last October and some of you met with the visitors to speak about our school. Thank you to the students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and board members who participated. I would also like to thank each of our IB Coordinators for their wonderful leadership and strategic planning:
- Nadia Demolder – PYP Coordinator
- Michele McLay – MYP Coordinator
- Matt Wood – DP Coordinator
As the reports speak to work completed over the past few years, congratulations and gratitude are also passed on to:
- Craig Eldred – Primary Principal and PYP Coordinator 2018-2020
- Ross Ferris – Secondary Principal 2018-2020
- Denise Walsh and her team
Michele McLay finally deserves congratulations as she has headed up the school’s accreditation efforts for the past several years. Well done!
With the school now fully accredited for a further 5 years, we now turn our attention to continuing the good work of school improvement. There are clearly some areas of our school that CIS, WASC, and the IBO have identified as recommendations for future focus. Our coordinators are currently drafting action plans based on these reports and on our self-diagnosed areas of need. I will share some of the commendations and recommendations with the community in this year’s – Year in Review Presentation – scheduled for Thursday, May 20. I’ll share a Zoom invitation in the upcoming weeks.
Student consultations have gone well this week. Please be on the lookout for a communication from your child’s homeroom teacher this afternoon.
