Henry (Gr 10)
I am running in the muddy and bloody trench, every step there is a muddy splash sound. I can hear the sound of explosives and screams from other soldiers. My leg has been shot by a bullet, though it was a few minutes ago, I can still feel the pain in my leg like something is sucking away my muscles from my bones and body. Now our side of the trenches is being covered by artillery shells from the Germans side, sometimes the artillery shells explode on the excrement of other French soldiers, that could be the worst smell you will ever know, but for us, this was a usual part of life my 3 years life, I step on a broken duckboard and trip over a dead body; the dead body is covered by mud and some excrement, and half of the body is under the water. Then I find out my leg is trapped between the duckboard and the dead body. I tried to pull out my foot but I was too tired to climb up again, then I realized my body was slowly being swallowed by the green poison gas. I start to feel my lungs being burned by the fire, my eyes feel like someone is pulling them out. Then I start breathing slowly and lose all the energy I have left and I stop trying to pull out my body, not because I don’t want to, it’s because….. It’s because I can’t t t. A few seconds later it becomes quieter, someone turns off the light and sound and my world starts to become quieter over time.
Reaper “ will hello there I am the Reaper that what humans called me. I am coming to take you to the underworld”
Uname “Did I die ?”
Reaper “yes you were dead. But I don’t know about your story can you tell me about your self”
Uname soldier “I think yes”
Marcel Landry “My name is Marcel Landry a French soldier I am 24 years old, young blood, I came to the front when I was 21 years old in 1915. I died because of a no reason infinity war.”
Reaper “ hum I thought fighting to the death for your country is a glory?”
Marcel Landry “HAHAHA glory? Do you think that is a glory thing? Hear the sound of explosives and screams from other soldiers every day. Living in a trench full of excrement, Mudd, rats, and a dead body is a glory thing? Where did the rich men go? Sitting at a clean house eating delicacy and making fun with other rich people. What are we doing? Eating rats, could food sometimes even don’t, looking other soldiers die in front of you. It is a living hell! I remember the first time, the first time our side of the trench had been covered by artillery from the German’s side. The first time someone looked at me and asked for help, he was
lying on a muddy dead body stretching his hand at me, looking at me with his dark eyes, and asking me for help. But at that moment it was too late, he had been covered by the explosions. The blast from the artillery exploded his body, then something fell in front of me. Ahead with gray eyes full of despair but understanding, the muddy under it turns red, and that is the soldier’s head.”
Reaper “ Humm understandable but if it is a leaving hell why did you go to the front?”
Marcel Landry “Haha why did I come to the font? Schools teach students to go to the front and fight for their country if you don’t you are a coward , before I came to the front. Schools taught students to make fun of the men who didn’t go to the front. Your family, friends and everyone was forcing you to go to the front, why because that is what Mr. Gover MMENN says.”
Reaper “What a sad story. But you are dead now you should enjoy your underworld. There is no you need to fight for.”
Marcel Landry “Mabe this is the only way to get out.
Audrie (Gr 9)
On 23rd January 1993 morning, Jack woke up with his dog beside him, Neo. While he was enjoying his morning breakfast, he got a call from his secretary, Eve.
Eve: “Hello sir, am I interrupting you?”
Jack: “Oh, it’s fine. I know there’s something important that you’re going to tell.”
Eve: “You already knew it, so I got an email from another detective from TDC (The Detective Company), they said that they need your help.”
Jack: “Is it the case that is going viral these days? What is that? Let me try to remember it, Oh, the one that someone kidnapped Mrs. Joe’s baby, right?”
Eve: “Absolutely, this case is viral and parents started to worry about this and not feel safe for their children. It is a serious case, let me know if you can help with this.”
Jack: “Wait, let me check my schedule first. Please don’t end the call. I’ll go quickly.”
Eve: “Sure then, I’ll wait.”
While Jack was checking his schedule, he realised that he had freetime on next week.
Jack: “Hello hello, are you still there?”
Eve: “I’m here. How? Will you help them?”
Jack: “I will, so can you please make a schedule with the other detective? I need to discuss something with them and what I should do to help them. I have freetime on next week.”
Eve: “Alright, so between Monday until Sunday?”
Jack: “Absolutely yes.”
Eve: “Then, see you later in the office.”
Jack: ‘Ok.”
After he had ended his call, he stood up and prepared to go. He was wearing a hat and formal dress, don’t forget his long coat. He wore these everyday, like what other detectives dressed up.
He had arrived in front of his office, and greeted the staff in his office.
When he was arriving in his room, someone knocked on the door.
Knock….knock….
Jack: “Yes, who’s there?”
Eve: “Hello sir, can I get in?”
Jack: “Oh, Eve, Yes you can”
Eve: “I had a chat with them this morning, right after I called you. They said they can meet with you on Tuesday.”
Jack: “Sure then, tell them to come here at 9.00 AM and then we can have lunch together.”
Eve: “I’ll send an email for them, to make sure if they approve it or not.”

BIS Theatre Spotlight
Students from DRAMA 6-7 (3rd arts rotation) participated in the research trip to the Museum of Masks and Puppets, which houses an incredible collection of masks, puppets, Barong Lundung and barong-sai from all across Indonesia and other regions around the world. Students have become inquisitive theatre researchers investigating the context and performance conventions of a specific mask theatre tradition.
Kiran, Grade 6: “This trip was very interesting because it was the first time I have seen the traditional Noh mask from Japan. I also got to see what a performance stage looks like and we got to experience what it was like to perform on a stage”.
Bella, Grade 6: “We saw a bunch of buildings with awesome masks, puppets and barongs collections inside, including instruments and props! This experience taught me that drama is a large part of the world history and traditions, and this also teaches me to understand the uniqueness of the designs from different countries.”
Youngmin, Grade 6: “Setia Darma House of Mask and Puppets is one of the easiest way to enjoy mask theater. They’re mostly Indonesian masks but there is also a corner that is filled with Japanese masks and others from all around the world. Some of the masks are especially unique like the mask from Italy and Kalimantan Also some of the masks in Bali had some special effects such as a dragon mask that has fire on the mouth of the mask”
Alexander, Grade 7: “The Japanese pavilion was really cool. They had a variety of different masks and clothing for the Noh Theatre. One of my favorite masks was the onibaba mask. I really like the style and the horns of it, it gives it a great personality.”
Ashton, Grade 7: “There were lots of interesting masks and things there; lots of the masks had different designs and looked like people or a monster. There were also these really tall statues (Barong Lundung) that were pretty cool”.
Stella, Grade 7: “I think that the trip to the Mask Museum was rather interesting since it is quite rare to find masks from all over the world in a single place on a small island (which is actually fascinating in my opinion). Something I realized was that the mask could be in any different size and could be decorated differently than others, which would be quite obvious because the roles of different masks would represent different “characters” in the theatre/play/show later on.”
