Primary Principal Update: Community Events
Primary Principal Update – Community Events
Dear Parents,
Thank you to all of you who were able to attend the Primary Open House on Thursday. It was great to have the opportunity to share some thoughts about how we, as a community of caring adults, can help our children to enjoy another year of relevant, engaging learning experiences. As you know, there are a number of calendared events on the horizon. Please join us if you can.
Introduction to the PYP – August 28th
Please join me at 8:00 in Room 1 (secondary school) if you would like to learn more about the PYP. This is a brief introduction to the PYP framework and an opportunity for you to ask any question about the programme.
International Day – September 4th
We encourage all students, parents and staff to come to school in clothes that are specific to their culture. It is also possible to change midday if this is more suitable/comfortable. Because all staff are invited to join the celebration, the school will close and lock all offices and close off one side of the campus during the event.
We will have a normal school day until lunch, which will need to be slightly earlier. Once students have eaten their lunch and changed, they will need to congregate in the primary courtyard where we will assemble the International Parade at about 12:15. Parents are invited to join their country groups for the parade. Please note that Preschool will march at the front of the parade under the United Nations banner, followed by Indonesia as the host country.
- 12:30 – The International Parade will begin the march, possibly accompanied by our marching band.
- 12:50 – Denise Walsh will address the whole community.
- 13:00 – All students will be dismissed so that they can visit the International Stalls that have been prepared by parents.
- 14:30 – All students will return to homerooms so that we can dismiss as usual.
- 14:45 – Secondary students and families with primary aged students may return to the International Day celebration if they wish until it officially finishes at 15:30.
BIS Literacy Day – September 8th
We invite all primary families to come and join us on Friday morning between 8:00 and 8:30. Students can bring cushions, blankets and cuddly toys along with books that they enjoy in any language. They can read alone or read with a friend or member of the family.
End of Day Dismissal Procedure
As discussed during Open House, primary students are more than welcome to play in our primary supervised area until 15:15. After this, we ask all families to leave. If you are waiting to pick up siblings who are involved in the after school programme, then the shaded pick up point in front of first grade is available. Students may not be anywhere else on the school grounds unless they are supervised by school staff or after school activity instructors.
As always, thank you for your ongoing, positive support.
Warm regards,
Alan
