Week 11-Welcome Back
We have had an extremely successful first term. I am so pleased with the amount of growth that I have seen from the student body. The amount of challenges that out students took on this past term have been very encouraging. I look forward to watching them continue to grow and push themselves.
We will be sending home an end of term report this Friday. This report will highlight the overview of each course your student is in, while also providing an indicator of your students learning and achievement in each course.
Our MYP students will receive reports that indicate their progress in each class up to this point, while that focusing on their Approaches to Learning skills and the impact of these skills on their overall understanding of the topics that have been covered thus far.
Our DP students will receive reports that give an indication of where their progress is at this time within each course. The DP report will also focus on Approaches to Learning skills and the impact of these skills on the overall understanding of the topics that have been covered thus far.
The reports will highlight what each indicator means in relation to the performance within a specific course. For example, an MYP student who receives an ATL indicator of ME means that they are meeting expectations for that particular skill. A DP student will also receive this type of ATL indicator as well as a numeric indicator for the progress they have shown thus far within each specific course. These indicators/acronyms will be highlighted and described within the report.
It is important to remember that our Term 1 reports are used to provide the teachers, students and parents an indication of where the student is at this particular time within the course. We are able to use this information as a diagnostic tool to help improve student learning for the remainder of the semester.

Thank You(s) and Welcome Back
At the end of term one we had to say goodbye to Mrs. Vollmar. I want to thank her for all of her hard work and support of our students during her time with us. We are very fortunate to have such a high quality teacher step in for the start of our school year. With that departure comes the welcoming of Mrs. Wood. I know her students will be very happy to see her return. The second term will also bring about another goodbye, Mrs. Walsh will be returning to the primary school. Again, I want to thank her for all of her hard work and support of our students during this first term. The primary school is very lucky to be getting such a dedicated educator. With goodbye also comes welcome back! We are happy to welcome back Ms. MacDonald. I know that her students will be equally excited to see her in this coming term.
Final Thoughts
It has been a fantastic start to the school year. I am thankful for the partnerships that have been developed between the school and it’s parents. It is important to continue to work together towards the continued growth and success of our students. Thank you again for a warm introduction to the BIS community and a productive start to the academic year.
Thank you for your continued interest and support of BIS and our students.
Kind Regards,
Justin Walsh
