Primary – Grade 1 Mentor: Eric Carle

Grade 1 have been using Eric Carle illustrations as an inspiration for creating their own art. Some of our favorite books include The Very Lonely Firefly and The Mixed Up Chameleon. We choose Eric Carle as our mentor because we really like how he uses lots of bright colors for his illustrations. His main characters are animals and we believe he cares a lot for all the creatures on our earth. We like how his stories have patterns. Grade 1 have been inspired by his use of collage and we have decided to create some Eric Carle inspired art.

We prepared the paper for our collages using a variety of tools, including plastic forks, bubble wrap, paint brushes, bottle caps, stamps and scrapers

Grade 1 imagined they were a character in an Eric Carle book.

Once all the paper was prepared, we began to create our own Eric Carle inspired art by collaging.
