FRIDAY NEWSLETTER from Secondary – 8th June 2018
Week 39-Moving Forward
As we near the end of the 2017-18 Academic year it is important to not only reflect on where we have been, but also think about where we are going. Many of our students are already thinking about future plans and how they can best prepare themselves. One of the most challenging things for the long school holiday is the balance between relaxation and stagnation. I most certainly encourage our students to take some time for themselves and as a family to enjoy their holiday and take a breather from the everyday workload of school. However, it is also important to remember to exercise those academic muscles less atrophy sets in! Please encourage your students to read, engage with the some of the resources that their teachers have compiled for the summer months. It is important to rest and relax, but let’s stay engaged as well.
Celebrating Growth and Success
On Wednesday we were able to take some time to acknowledge and celebrate the growth and success of our student body. It was fantastic to see so many different students acknowledged for their hard work and achievement. The event culminated with the awarding of the Learner Profile, Service as Action and CAS Awards. These awards highlight what we believe as a school community, the importance of a well rounded individual who continues to strive towards growth! I want to thank all of the teachers for their deliberation over the awards, the parents for supporting their students and most importantly, the students themselves for all of their hard work. Great Job!
BSSA Athletics
This past Monday over 40 Secondary students represented BIS at the BSSA Athletics competition. It is fantastic to see so many of our students active and supporting one another through sport. I want to thank all of our Athletic coaches, Mr. Sutherland, Mr. Lennan and the PTFA for the help in organizing and supporting our students throughout this event, especially considering how we had to host right here on campus!
End Of Term Reports
This coming Friday, June 8th, our end of term reports will be sent home via email. These reports will highlight our students achievement through this part of the term, highlighting their ATL Skills and providing comments about their growth through the whole academic year. Please go through the report with your student, asking them about their accomplishments and where they see areas for growth.
End of Year Sports Banquet
This Thursday we celebrated our students athletic accomplishments and acknowledged what they have accomplished as a school throughout the whole year. The banquet was a lovely event highlighting growth and accomplishment through sport.
Moving Up Day
This Tuesday we had our moving up day for our 5th grade students who will be joining the Secondary School next year. Our counselor and MYP coordinator helped with their transition, providing them access to classes and having them go through some common questions regarding secondary school. I look forward to this lively bunch joining the us next year.
Holiday!
What a fantastic year, our students have grown, challenged themselves, made new connections and continued to be positive members of our community. I am so proud of all of the efforts of our students this year, from Academic Awards, Community Engagement, Artistic exploration to Athletic achievement, this has been a truly growth focused and fruitful year.
I encourage all of our BIS students to remain engaged over the summer holidays and I look forward to their return on August 6th.
Maintaining Academic Focus
Summer holidays is a fantastic time to relax and reflect. It is still important to maintain the focus and growth that your student has achieved throughout this year. Students have the ability to access resources from their teachers online. Google Classroom and other resources have been shared with the students to end this year. This is a great way for our students to continue the progress that they have started this year.
Thank You
Finally, I want to thank you for a wonderful two years here at BIS. The students and the community have been so welcoming, my family are very lucky to be able to be a part of such a caring community. BIS and Bali will always have a special place in our hearts.
Thank you for your continued interest and support of BIS and our students.
Kind Regards,
