Assessment in the PYP Parent Information Session
Assessment in the PYP Parent Information Session will be held from 8:00 – 9:00am on Monday 26 November in the Library. I will give an overview on assessment and reporting in the PYP at Bali Island School and then will be joined by some of the teachers who can share specific samples of assessment tasks used across different subject and grade levels in the Primary School.
BSSA Girls 9 – 10 Soccer
Congratulations to our Bali Schools Sports Association (BSSA) who finished the regular season in 2nd place and also placed 2nd in the finals. The girls won a very exciting semi final penalty shoot out against Canggu School and then lost the final 0 – 1 to Dyatmika School. The girls played together well as a team throughout the year, always trying their best, being willing learners and also displaying wonderful sportsmanship at all times. Thank you to the coaches, Ms Erickson and high school students Alba and Natasha who did a marvellous job of the supporting the team throughout the season. We’ll see you all for the volleyball season.
BSSA Boys 9 – 10 Soccer
The 9 – 10 Boys A Team will play in the finals of their competition next Tuesday 6 November from 2:00pm at Bali Island School. They will play their semi final at 3:00pm and then either a 3/4th playoff or final at 3:30pm. It would be great to get some support for the games from parents and students. In addition to our 9 – 10 Boys team competing on Tuesday, the 11 – 12 Boys and 13 – 15 Boys will also be playing their finals at the school.
Pool Closed
The pool will be closed for the next week as we are still waiting for the repairs to be completed.
Term 2 After School Activities
It has been wonderful to see so many of our students enjoying the wide range of new and returning After School Activities on offer this term. The wide range of activities include volleyball, jewellery making, ballet, dodge ball, computer coding, maker-space, brain games, drama, cooking and many more. Thank you to the teachers who put so much effort into preparing and leading these activities. Thanks to Pak Agus for creating this great little video.
Staff Inservice Days
A reminder to all parents that Thursday 8 and Friday 9 November will be student free days. Our teachers will be working on a range of tasks including reviewing our ACER International Schools Assessment results and looking at areas of strengths and areas for improvement in our Language and Math curriculum; reviewing our updated whole school Assessment Policy; reviewing the assessment tools we use for math throughout the year. Teachers will also work in committee group or small working groups to begin review of our whole school Language Policy; Special Education Policy; PYP – MYP – DP vertical articulation of math; PYP – MYP – DP vertical articulation of science; PYP – MYP – DP vertical articulation of Health & PE; PYP – MYP – DP vertical articulation of the arts.
Spirit Week
The Primary Students embraced the Spirit Week dress up themes at school this week very enthusiastically. We had lots of groovy pyjamas, very crazy hair, and wacky Wednesday on a Thursday, but my favourite was Wednesday’s Book Character Dress Up. It was great to see so many students talking so enthusiastically with their teachers and friends about their favourite characters and favourite books. Thank you to the mums and dads who put so much effort into helping the children organise their dress ups during the week – it was great to see so many creative outfits that were made at home and obviously did not cost too much money. Thank you also to the PTA and parents for hosting and running Wednesday afternoon’s very successful Halloween Party. Thanks to Pak Agus for creating this great little video.
House t-shirt Orders
Orders for House t-shirts will be accepted up until 8:00am Monday 5 November in the Main Reception. Please note that House t-shirts are not kept in stock in the school uniform shop and are only ordered for students who have paid when placing orders. If you did not receive or lost your order form, please check your email as we are sending them home again. Moving forwards, we plan on hosting some fun lunch time house team events once a month.
Lost Property
A reminder to all primary students and parents that our Lost Property is located next to the MPR by the recycling bins. We have quite a few PE uniforms, drink bottles and lunch boxes looking for their homes. I would also remind all parents to check that all belongings and clothes that come to school are clearly labelled as they do tend to fade or come off as the year progresses.
Recycling Bins
It’s great to see so many families recycling some of their home waste. While some of this can be done at home with your local waste / recycling man, many families are taking advantage of the recycle bins at the school. In addition to recycle bins behind the MPR, we have another set in the area in front of the covered basketball court. I would ask parents, helpers and students to ensure that all recycling goes into the bins as the recycling left laying on the ground near the bins makes the area look untidy by the bins and directly outside of the high school music classroom look very untidy.
