BIS Career Day-A Huge Success!
On Thursday, January 24th we kicked off our BIS Career Day with a powerful keynote address by speaker, author, and human rights advocate, Christine Bader, who inspired our students with her words of wisdom: 1. Don’t take advice from other people (they don’t know what’s best for you, you do!) Do take advice from your parents though; 2. When people say “You should”, ask them to share their “I did”-their story about why they chose to do what they did and; 3. When people say they got a phone call out of the blue and were offered their dream job-ask them to trace that call (what were all the conversations, connections, and experiences that led up to them receiving that call?)
Looking sharp in their professional attire, our students in grades 6-12 attended two panel sessions each and had the chance to hear from over 20 professionals from a variety of career backgrounds speaking about their jobs, their education, their challenges, and their professional pathways that got them where they are today. Members of the Student Council introduced the speakers, led the panels, and submitted students’ written questions to the panelists. It was an amazing educational opportunity for the students, led by the students. Our Teachers were thrilled as well and were inspired by the wisdom shared by these amazing visitors. Please view a list of the career panels and panelists who attended our career day here.
Thank you to everyone, especially our parent panelists and two BIS alums, for making this day a huge success!
