CAS Corner

Iona Leys (Grade 11)

Today we prepared for our Valentine’s Day sale. By leading the sixth graders to effective packaging of bath bombs and making valentine cards, I demonstrated how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. Also by sending emails to bath bomb pre-orders, I initiated conversation between consumers and us. I was the liaison between customers and the team. I also planned with the other girls on how the packaging would look like to ensure that it was portable and also looked aesthetically pleasing. We wanted to include elements of Valentine’s into our design because the sale was taking place on the day. Another plan was what time we were going to sell the bath bombs. Because originally we decided to only sell at recess and lunch time but we also decided to include a morning session as well. After the valentine’s day sale, I was planning on doing a reflection session, to evaluate the things we did well and things we need to improve on.

There were many challenges that we faced during the process up to the Valentine’s day sale. A major issue was that we did not have enough cloth. But thanks to a fellow student, the cloth was brought in and it was just in time for packaging. Also we could not use the pens that were used for tracing the hearts. By doing this, I demonstrated that challenges had been undertaken and also I developed new skills in the process. Such as cooperating with others and delegating tasks instead of doing everything by myself. This is because the card was red and the pens were also red. However, we solved this problem by getting a gold pen from Primary. Also at the last meeting, the girls could not finish the cards for all the bath bombs. But the girls need to do some card making during recess and lunch to ensure that we have all of the stock and packaging ready for Thursday’s sale. Our biggest challenge yet that we have not accomplished is trying to outdo our last sale, i.e. earning more money than last time. I hope our sale is a success and we get a lot of purchases of bath bombs.
