Message from the Head of School – March 6, 2019
For someone new to the island, it has been exciting to see the construction process of the Ogoh-Ogoh at the end of our street near school. Mr. Eldred went down a week or so ago with the Kindergarten class to watch the artists working on the “King of Mosquitoes”. They were able to see the art work which inspired the creation. I imagine the parades tonight will be impressive.
While the Bali Island School parade may not be quite as impressive, we do take pride in the fact that our school celebrates our host country’s culture and those of other cultures. We live in an amazing world, and those lucky enough to be educated at BIS learn about and appreciate so many different and interesting perspectives. Imagine the rich conversations occurring in the Grade 1, Grade 8 and Grade 12 classes about religious beliefs, the importance of tradition, and respect for opposing viewpoints. While the depth of the conversation obviously changes through the grade levels, wrestling with these topics is what an education at BIS is all about.
Thank you to the parents who met with me this morning to learn about our Recruiting and Child Protection practices here at BIS. I appreciate the interest in our school.
Have a lovely long weekend and enjoy the time with family and friends.
