BIS Events Calendar

Dear Parents,

There has been an expectant buzz in Secondary this week in the lead up to the EOTC trips which will take place from Tuesday to Friday next week. It has been very pleasing to see and hear students exploring ways to meaningfully provide service to the communities they are visiting. Students are planning their goals and aligning them with the CAS (DP) or Service as Action Learning (MYP) Outcomes on ManageBac. When the students return from these trips we aim to have an exhibition where they can share what EOTC means at BIS and to the local communities in Bali with our community and visitors from outside.

Final Reflection for Vanguard – By Kiara Brown

I believe that throughout the year I have been able to create great articles and content for Vanguard and its websites that are important and hold global significance and that are morally/ethically helpful to other people. I believe that my articles are focused on globally important issues such as body positivity, mental health, and Asian representation in movies. These articles can help better people and make people feel more positive about not only themselves but about these global issues, as there refer to books, activists, and movies that discuss these subjects.

I believe that I have persevered continuously and been committed to Vanguard as I have worked on Vanguard and collaborated with the people in the group throughout the whole year. Furthermore, I also believe that due to Vanguard I have become better at working collaboratively with others as both an editor and writer. We have worked with each other collaboratively by sharing content, giving each other ideas, being open-minded with each other and using our strengths and weaknesses to better each other.

I believe that through Vanguard, I have been able to improve on many different skills that I did not have much in the beginning of the year. In the beginning of Vanguard, I had trouble with editing work as I am not usually an editor, however as I worked more on editing other people’s work and as I read through other people’s work, I found it easier and easier to help others improve their work through editing and sharing my own ideas on their work with them. This has allowed me more thinking skills and also improved my communication skills. I am extremely proud of the website and think it looks fantastic. For those who would like to see it, here is the link: https://vanguardbis.wixsite.com/vanguard

Overall, it was a great year that was filled with lots of new friendships that I made in Vanguard and lots of great content and research being done in the club. However, I believe that the most satisfying part of the club was the moment Malaika (our graphic designer and editor for the website) published it and when I saw the posters around school advertising the new Vanguard website. I am very pleased with the work I have done in this club and hope new writers, editors, graphic designers, and leaders join Vanguard next year to keep it running.

Secondary Student Council (STUCO) 2019-2020

By Malikha Aryatantra & Laura Delgado

A new school year means a new Student Council [STUCO] for the Secondary School. We hope to continue and develop what the previous STUCO teams have created, as the proverbial baton has been passed down to this year’s executive team:

  • Malikha (Grade 11) – President maryatantra21@baliis.net
  • Laura (Grade 10) – Vice President ldelgadorusli22@baliis.net
  • Amieca (Grade 9) – Communication Officer ajoustra23@baliis.net
  • Selina (Grade 9) – Sport & Social Coordinator sko23@baliis.net
  • Seung Gun (Grade 11) – Sport & Social Coordinator soh21@baliis.net
  • Ralvian (Grade 8) – Sport & Social Coordinator rwoodhouse24@baliis.net
  • Charlotte (Grade 7) – Treasurer cjaquier25@baliis.net

Included in STUCO is 9 other student volunteers who will support the team as our representatives.

For this school year, STUCO aims to provide a voice for student needs, while promoting a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the community. We strive to become a strong group of individuals who will provide and support student service and leadership opportunities. We will do this by organising activities to build collaboration and school spirit, all the way to creating events to raise awareness or helping out with other communities. Anything the student body decides is worth making a change about. Therefore, we hope to create a positive impact towards our school community in various ways in addition to people outside our community as well. We are the vehicle for student voices to be heard and are open to anything anyone might suggest.

As this year has only just begun, we are excited for countless opportunities to make our vision come true!
