Lewis & Clark College
Lewis & Clark College (Portland, OR) will visit Green School on Friday, September 20 from 12:30-1:15. BIS students and parents are welcome to attend this session and meet with the rep. Lewis & Clark is private liberal arts & sciences college with a public conscience and a global reach. They enroll students from approximately 60 countries and almost every state in the US.
They offer both need and merit based scholarships to both US and international students, and these awards can be used for both regular enrollment here on campus, and also to participate in one of their 35 off-campus and overseas studies programs.
Some of their most popular academic programs include international affairs, environmental studies, biology & biochemistry, world languages, and their new minor in entrepreneurship & innovation.
And last but not least, Lewis & Clark is home to one of very few programs to support and celebrate Third Culture Kids (TCKs) transitioning from high school to college studies, and they’ve been doing that for a long time now.
Please let us know in the Counseling Office if you will attend this visit at Green School. 62-261-288-770

Social Emotional Counseling:
Mindfulness in Secondary classes
As a trained Mindfulness Teacher and Family Therapist, I am visiting classes wherever possible to teach students (and Teachers) mindfulness techniques that they can use to increase their focus and self-regulate or regain composure after being thrown off center by strong emotions. In this era of multi-tasking and increased student stress, mindfulness provides an opportunity to experience something opposite. During each class visit, students are taught, and able to experience for themselves, a new way to stay focused. They might focus on sound, thoughts, bodily sensations, feelings, or heartfulness-sending kind thoughts to others which, in turn, brings us positive emotions. The idea is that they learn how to stay focused on one particular thing for longer and longer periods of time and also bring them selves back to a focused state when they find their minds wandeing. The mindfulness sessions last between 5 and 20 minutes and, in this time, students are able to go inside, get quiet and still, and pay attention to what’s happening in their minds and bodies, quite possibly for the only time in the day.
