Helmets at BIS
Indonesian law requires that any person on a motorbike whether driver or passenger, must be wearing an approved helmet. The actual law is at the bottom of this article.
While authorities will often overlook children not wearing helmets we, at BIS, insist that all members of the BIS community traveling to and from school abide by the laws of Indonesia and wear helmets.
In many western countries a helmet is also required by law when riding a bicycle. Indonesia does not have a law regarding cyclists wearing helmets.
As an International School aspiring to the highest standards of safety for our community, we recognise that this is an area where a number of our members are most at risk of serious injury or death.
Riding to school is a wonderful opportunity to get some exercise and a healthy start to the day and we are thrilled that a large number of our community take this opportunity. If your child rides a bike to school we highly recommend they wear a helmet and humbly request that adult riders role model safe behaviour by doing the same.
Using a helmet can save your life and is the easiest and most affordable way to prevent serious injury or death. Help protect our children.
