Grade 12 Mock Exams
Grade 12s will be sitting their Mock Exams from February 3-7. Mock Exams give all the students an opportunity to demonstrate their learning so far and also to experience what the final IBDP exam conditions will feel like. The exam experience is almost as important as the exam results as it will allow students to enter their final exams confident of what to expect. The Mock Exam results do not count towards the students’ final IBDP grades in any way and are instead a good indicator of current progress and are useful in highlighting areas of improvement to both students and teachers.
Following the Mock Exams, the Grade 12 students will reflect on their exam results both individually and with their teachers. Following the exam feedback, students will reflect on their areas of success and areas for improvement to better develop their metacognition skills. Grade 12s will demonstrate the ownership of their learning and studying habits by writing their own comments for the Mock Exam reports which will be sent home on February 28 and take the place of the Term 3 report card. Throughout the rest of the school year, until their Final Exams start, May 1, students will continue to hone and fine-tune their revision skills and exam preparation. Please click here for further research on the importance and effectiveness of pre- and post-exam reflection.
ISA Tests
All parents should have received a letter about ISA testing on January 30. If your child is well, please ensure your child is at school on these days. Please click here for the video about ISA.

Grade 9
Students are currently studying a unit on ‘The Industrial Revolution and the impact on the modern world’ for Individuals and Societies. They just handed in their latest assessment where they had to choose an invention during this era and discuss the impact the invention had on society then and now. A range of inventions were chosen and students did a fantastic job presenting these via a slideshow to the rest of the class. Here are some snapshots from their slideshows:
Grade 6 & 7 Arts Sharing
A reminder to parents of students in Grades 6 & 7.
As we approach the end of the second rotation, the Arts Department would like to invite you to an informal sharing session of the Art, Music and Drama work produced throughout the course. The performances/presentations will commence at 12 noon and finish by lunchtime (12.30 pm), on Friday, February 14.
If your child is currently in Visual Art, please go to the Art Room. If they are in Drama please go to the MPR. If they are in Music please go to the Secondary Music Room.
This lesson is the last for rotation II and students will enter their third and final Arts rotation on February 20.
We look forward to seeing you on the day.
I’ve launched the Student Council Instagram and currently am in charge to keep posting what’s needed in order to inform our community of students on upcoming events that STUCO will host. As of right now, all STUCO members are working hard in order to put together and organize the upcoming Valentine’s dance which will be hosted on February 14, 2020. We’ve assigned people to do different jobs as organizing this dance is a great task and this is where I truly understand how effective it is to plan and make an action plan for events like these. Not thinking of covering all these roles alone makes me happy and to know that I can rely on other student council members to complete the tasks that they’ve been assigned to is relieving. Hopefully, everything goes well and everyone does the task they’ve been asked to do in order to bring this dance together. I also created the poster and tickets for Valentine’s dance.

Taman Bacaan Giving Tree
Students, teachers, and the entire BIS community have generously purchased nearly 30 presents for our local Taman Bacaan students. Lovingly dubbed The Giving Tree, Secondary STUCO helped to collect gift tags with the students’ names, along with a present that child would really love to have. For the last few weeks, anyone in the BIS community could choose a tag from the tree, purchase the gift, wrap it, and give it to our lovely local community children. Here is a huge thank you to all the people who participated. Stay tuned for more photos of the students opening their extra special presents!
