Counseling
Reframing thinking after an upsetting incident is a process that helps people move on and prevents anxiety. Teens can do this with minimal support. I suggest you work through this well after the upsetting event, when everyone is calm. If your family has a disagreement, everyone in the family can do their own reframing exercise, and then you can share in a family meeting.

How to Register for the SAT

Many universities in the US are moving away from SATs, not only due to COVID. If G12 students explore US universities and see that testing is optional, this means the university no longer weighs testing necessary. If students take the SAT and score at the top, it could be helpful as a further indicator of achievement. Universities recognize that grades, especially DP grades, better reflect university success than a one-off test.

BIS is hosting a virtual fair on September 25th. G9-12 students will be participating. This fair is an excellent opportunity to make connections and learn about various universities interested in students from Bali Island School.  The Council of

International Schools is also hosting a virtual fair. G11-12 should consider attending the evening section of this one, too.

Planning For The Journey Ahead
Matt Wood – DP Coordinator

A big focus for the Grade 11s this week, in both homeroom and DP Hour, has been time management and goal setting. Educational research has pointed to student time management being a key factor in decreasing student stress and maintaining motivation in school. We have examined the why and how to become/remain organised, discussed the power of visualization [both positive and negative] in terms of achieving goals, how to use technology to better plan time, how to set realistic goals that are intrinsically student-driven, and the differences between goal intentions and implementation intentions. An exemplar after school schedule has been shared with the students to customize and make their own and we [Grade 11 HR teachers] will be reviewing these schedules over the coming weeks. As parents please spend the time to sit down with your child this weekend and ask them to share their goals and ambitions [both educational and emotional/physical/social] with you and find ways to support them through this challenging two-year journey. The students were also encouraged to cook a healthy dinner for the family from time to time as well so….you’re welcome! Here is a link to the presentation that contains many of the journal articles as well.

The Grade 12s are showing great resilience in completing their Internal Assessments [IAs] as well as their Extended Essays [EEs]. Their EEs, in conjunction with their Theory of Knowledge [TOK] scores, can contribute up to 3 additional points to the students’ final IBDP grade. Please see the matrix below for further details. Last year 80% of our graduating class received at least 2 additional points and we are aiming to better that result this year.
