CAS Corner by Nathan Moies-Delval
Student Babysitting
Through this experience I was able to connect with the younger kids in our community and prove that my actions were completely ethical, I also demonstrated an understanding of the current global situations, specifically the current Covid-19 pandemic, because I made sure to stay socially distanced while playing with and watching over the children. We used collaborative skills by discussing with my colleagues what we should do to keep the kids happy. Jacob had brought the snacks, I had brought the football and Andy had introduced the games we played. Collaboration also took place when we played the games together and worked together to score points (football). As a group of 3, we had all demonstrated how to initiate and plan an enjoyable CAS experience. I feel that I have contributed to aiding a need in our community and I am content, however, I would like to make more contributions to the community in the future and if this opportunity is ever given to us again, I will definitely sign up for another time slot.

SOS Food Drive

From April 31 to May 7th, the SOS Services Action Group hosted a food drive, collecting donations from the BIS Community in order to help with providing food for those in need. As a whole, our team managed to collect over 200kg of rice as well as substantial amounts of oil, tempeh, eggs and fresh produce!

As well as the collection of donations, a few eager volunteers were able to visit the Scholars of Sustenance Rescue Kitchen in Sanur, where they helped with the packaging of the cooked food as well as visit the main places for these distributions.

Together, we were able to feed over 2000 people in need around Sanur and Denpasar. The SOS group would like to congratulate and thank the whole bis community for their undying support and contributions and we hope to continue our service in the future.

Sincerely,
Amieca Joustra – SOS SA Leader

Grade 7 Advertisement Campaigns
G7 Students in Mrs. Mac’s Language & Literature class worked together to create their own advertisement campaign marketing one of the G10 personal project products.  All students did an excellent job, and even more importantly, learned a lot from this unit.

Carl-Dominik & Ayden

Carl-Dominik-
“I learned that the techniques make up a whole lot when making videos to persuade people to do a certain thing or to buy something. The techniques that you use could have a drastic impact on what the final result will be.”

Ayden-
“I have never done an ad campaign before or a project like this but I would probably like to do something like this again in the future, and I think I improved my time management skills during this project. ”

Zaria & Lucie

Zaria-
“I learned a lot from this assignment like how to make an ad, what an ad consists of, and the main techniques that are needed in an ad. I felt that the process of making my ad campaign was really fun but sometimes could be challenging. I think that my final presentation was good and  I feel very proud of it.”

Lucie-
“I think that this assignment was very interesting, and it had us thinking about our creativity as well as our use in vocabulary, at the same time it also helped us to get used to working together and improve our team working skills.”

Upcoming ACT Test & Deadline

How to Register for ACT

What is the difference between ACT and SAT?
While many US universities are dropping the requirements for SAT/ACT, some universities outside of the US will take ACT/SAT as a way to prove math capabilities. Example: G11 met with Jacob Uni in Germany and if you do not meet their requirements for IBDP Math courses, they will look at SAT/ACT scores. Consider if the time and energy preparing will take from normal studies and reduce overall DP points. In that case, the benefits would not be great. If they prepare over the summer for the test, it might make sense to have the scores as an extra piece of evidence of academic potential. Khan Academy offers free SAT prep. Kaplan offers a self-paced ACT prep course.
