Message from the Head of School – December 17, 2021

International and Domestic Travel Update
BIS will follow the regulations communicated by the Indonesian Government regarding International and Domestic travel. BIS will not impose a further quarantine period to access the campus. It is the belief of the Health Committee that the quarantine for international travel and the testing required for domestic travel will help keep our community safe.

Happy and safe travels!

New Families to BIS
The Parent Class Representatives and I met this week to discuss ways to reestablish communication between home and school and ensure new families to BIS feel welcome. As Semester Two begins, BIS will hold a New Family Orientation/Welcome to welcome new families and to help (re)create our BIS Community.

Any new family that has joined BIS in the Covid era (March 2020 onwards) please come to the Courtyard on January 22 at 8:00 a.m. to meet your Parent Representative and network with our PTA and other BIS Community members. All are welcome and encouraged to join – old and new alike!

See you all on January 10 at 7:45 a.m.

Mr. W’s Annual Christmas Poem
with a deep and respectful bow to Dr. Suess…

Every BIS Dragon in Bali

liked school

A-lot

But covid 19

The pandemic,

did not!

The battle began in March 20-20

Students went home that day not knowing for how many

Distance learning, hybrid – the models we tested

But we learned pretty quickly face to face could not be bested

Students and faculty felt under siege by covids hit

We all developed Perseverance, growth mindset, and grit

From 0 to 50 to 75 we fought back

We fought to get learning back – back on track

From Ubud to Nusa Dua, dragons dug into their learning

Every chance that they had, they inquired, questions burning

And their questions were answered with care and attention

For the BIS faculty, learning was never in suspension

In classes students became more globally minded

Wrestling with issues of migration and vaccination equity – perspectives unblinded

The heart of Bali Island School stayed strong throughout

Values and approaches to learning skills embedded – never in doubt

And soon we saw glimpses of the ol’ BIS peeking through

Students began playing badminton and volleyball, ping pong and Wyncoll style 4 square too

They included their classmates, encouraged all to join

They made everyone feel welcome – a recess bonanza (like bitcoin)

As you can see from the boards, students continued to care for our community

Taking action from their learning at every opportunity

Then the community thought of something an idea began to spark

(or was it a zoom 🙂

Maybe learning, they thought, doesn’t only happen in classrooms

It can happen at home, wherever students are

We have dragons in Taiwan, Dilli and SingapoRe

Maybe learning…perhaps…can occur anywhere

If conditions are right and you have faculty who care

And what happened then, well at Bali Island School we say

learning is something to be treasured each day

Yes Delta or Omicron or whatever happens next

BIS provides high quality education – in Bali – the best!

Happy holidays to all – and happy New Year to you

We will be together soon – in 20-22!
