ISA Testing Grades 3-10

Dear PYP 3-5 and MYP 6-10 Parents and Guardians,

Your child will participate in the Australian Council for Educational Research’s (ACER) International School Assessment (ISA) on the following dates:

  • Trial Testing Dates:
    • All students in grade 3-5 : Monday-Tuesday, January 24-25
    • All grade 6 and grade 7-10 new students only: Tuesday-Wednesday, January 25-26
  • ISA Testing Dates
    • Primary: Monday-Tuesday, February 7-8
    • Secondary: Wednesday-Thursday, February 9-10

The ISA is designed specifically for students in Grades 3–10 in international schools, whose language of instruction is English. Around 90,000 students from 400 schools worldwide participated in ISA each year, including Bali Island School.

The school will receive a report for each student that completes the assessment and this will be shared with you. The school receives extensive data on the students’ performance which allows us to not only look at individual student and cohort growth, but also look at areas of strength and areas that require improvement in our programmes. We anticipate receiving these results in late April.

Students diagnosed with learning needs will complete the tests with their stipulated accommodations provided. It is important that all students participating in the assessment get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before arriving at school. In past years, the test for Grades 3-5 was conducted using a pencil and paper. The ISA has moved all testing to their online version so it is important that all students arrive with a fully charged tablet/laptop, a charger, and a calculator.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) and the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) have an informal agreement to communicate about research projects using the ISA that are of mutual interest. Download: How does the ISA align with the IB curriculum? here.
