DP CORE – EE CELEBRATIONS
DP Hour this Thursday saw our Grade 12 students successfully hand in their Extended Essays. This is a huge milestone that they have achieved in their DP journey and is thoroughly deserving of a celebration! The Extended Essay, a 4,000-word research project undertaken in a subject and a topic that the student is interested in, contributes to a maximum of 3 additional points in the DP in conjunction with outstanding performance in Theory of Knowledge.
Our Grade 12 students demonstrated a wide range of interests in their EE topic selection and our 14 IBDP students completed their EEs in 9 different subjects, showing a phenomenal scope of diversity, from Visual Arts to Psychology and desire to follow their interests. Well done!
The celebration allowed the Grade 12s to reflect on the process and also offer words of advice to the Class of 2024 who will be introduced to the EE in January. It also allowed us to see which of the seniors had the experience of popping the cork on a champagne bottle!
IISSAC FOOTBALL
Last week, our Boys and Girls Senior teams traveled to Malang to compete against five other schools for this year’s football IISSAC tournament. And what an experience it has been! We displayed the best football overall and were able to bring a trophy back to Bali.
The girls played exceptionally well this year despite being such a young team with only one senior player from grade 11. They reached the semifinals and tried their best against a physically strong and older team. They definitely have a bright future ahead of them!
The boys also played really well displaying the best football of the boy’s tournament. They kept control of the ball and always tried to play collectively. They ended up winning the tournament, imposing their style of play in almost every game.
In the words of the coaches, this tournament was more than just about competing, it was for our Dragons to fly away once again to proudly represent their school and their values. BIS could not have wished for better ambassadors than the students on the picture.
Big thanks to our uniform sponsors “Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran” and “AVB Media”. Thank you to the parents for supporting their children in this endeavor, and to the coaches Mr. Ingram, Mrs. Turner, Mr. Klaus and Mr. Javi for their dedication and commitment to the team.
Why being part of the IISSAC Team? Read the student’s testimonials below.
- The IISSAC experience has given me so many opportunities to grow as a person, helping me meet new people, become closer to peers and persevere through challenges and celebrate through successes as a team. IISSAC was something that helped our community grow closer and I am honored to have represented our school.
- It was my first time to join IISSAC football and it was an awesome experience with the best teammates. There were a lot of challenging but happy moments that are unforgettable in my memory 😀
- Coming into IISSAC football, I had very little experience with the game. I joined to prove to myself that with perseverance and diligence I can conquer the field and after the final game of Bali vs. MountainView that dream was accomplished but it was also not for my amazing teammates and coaches. Thank you so much to all coaches and thank you IISSAC.
- Going to IISSAC and winning it is something I will not forget. I enjoyed playing football and having fun with friends and making new friends. If I can, I will definitely participate again next year.
- This IISSAC experience allowed me to have a deeper understanding of my teammates’ skills wise, and also just to have fun and play the game of football with different people. Overall the experience was amazing and I am very thankful for our team’s effort and support.
- Going to IISSAC was an experience of a lifetime. Once we arrived in Malang, we had lots of fun with the people from other teams and we did way more than just play football. We got to do so many more activities and to make new friends and also got to go to the mall to hang out. One of the best things that happened during the trip was the win, the feeling of winning was so good.
- For me, IISSAC was about more than just whether we won or lost. It was about team spirit, cheering even when we lost, losing our voices from chanting so much, supporting each other when we were down, and making lifelong memories!
- IISSAC was a brilliant and fun experience for me and I would really love to do it again! We had lots of matches/games against other teams. We also had the fun experience of enjoying our last day in Malang by playing games in the pool and going to the mall! It was a fun experience and I really hope we could do it again next year and bring back more trophies to BIS!
- IISSAC was a great experience for me as I learned many things such as team working, communicating, socializing, and time management skills. Throughout this trip, I created many memories and experiences that I will always remember.
- I think that through the IISSAC competition, I was able to get closer to the players of my team, and get to know them better, as well as create friendships with people that I did not know previous to the competition. IISSAC helped me to develop my football skills, and aided me in becoming a better team player.
- The IISSAC tournament taught me a lot of things, not only about being able to play football, but also how team work is really important including being responsible, and always taking care of each other. Apart from that, we had a good time together and it will always be an amazing memory to remember.
- IISSAC was an amazing experience for me. Being part of a team means that you are never alone. We worked together and made it far. I can’t wait to bring the trophy home next year.
- During IISSAC, I learned how to win and lose as a team, yet also how to appreciate the opposing team and their players skills and challenges. It was also a nice way to connect with other students from around Java and create friendly rivalries between teams and people.
- IISSAC, a time where it felt “normal” again, where all 6 schools were in one campus competing to be the best. This IISSAC was full of great memories, support, new friends made and a great win for the boys team. I still hear the chants… BALI! BALI! BALI! BALI!
- The 2022 IISSAC football tournament is gonna be very memorable for me. Because of this journey, I have made new friends and new memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. This team has taught me that if you put your mind and work really hard on your goals / dream this year, it will be accomplished. Finally, I wanna thank everyone in the team for making this IISSAC experience a memorable one. Thank You!
- One of the most memorable and unforgettable IISSAC out of my whole year, since this IISSAC was something special I had some weird feeling that something surprising would happen in this tournament. With all the new people and connections that I made we were able to not only grow as a community of BIS but as individuals to develop through various experiences. It was a great win for the boys team and was honoured to represent Bali Island School. I can’t thank you enough to my teammates, supporters, coaches (Mr Klaus, Mr Javier, Mr Ingram, Ms Kristen) and other players from different schools.
- For me, IISSAC was such a nice and new learning experience which I really enjoyed. I also developed my communication and football skills. I really loved going to IISSAC and made some new friends as well 🙂
