Message from the Head of School – September 27, 2019
Over 40 University Admissions Officers visited BIS today to share their higher education programs to our students. Thanks to Rachael Gerbic, our College Counselor for making this day happen for our aspiring students. Students from grades 9-12 were able to sign up for informative sessions prior to visiting the booths. Students from other schools visited BIS as well to take advantage of this opportunity.
I encourage you to attend the 3-way conferences next week. The opportunity to listen to your child speak about his/her learning is really powerful and also provides opportunities for you to better understand how to support your child’s learning at home.
Freedom from Chemical Dependency is an organization I worked with in Ecuador. They provide parent and family webinars from time to time. If you would like to get some useful scientific information about how different drugs affect the teenage brain, about the pressures our adolescents have to negotiate, I highly recommend this session to you.
I draw your attention again to the Board’s communications sent yesterday via email. Both communications can also be found here: Community Letter, Topic Group Invitation
Tomorrow, BIS hosts the ANPS Roadshow. ANPS is a professional development organization for SPK schools within Indonesia. Board Chair, Kib Roby and I attended an ANPS event last year and we were both impressed with the quality of the presentations and conversation. I would like to thank the 12 BIS Faculty members who are attending for demonstrating your commitment to continuous and lifelong learning.
We have a week to go before the end of Term I. The learning experiences created in the classrooms by our talented and dedicated faculty continues to impress me on a daily basis. Further opportunities in BSSA Football and other After School Activities have helped to educate the “whole child”, as well as international trips to Manila and Kuala Lumpur. I am indebted to the efforts of our PTA for their tireless work to help build community. Thank you all for helping us set a positive tone to this school year.
