Viewing the solar eclipse safely

This year during Nyepi we will be treated to a partial solar eclipse. However tempting it may be, looking directly at the sun, even for seconds, may damage the eyes.  Our teachers will be addressing this in Science classes, and there is lots of information on the internet, but here are the basics:

  • Never look at the sun directly without protective eye gear. Even sunglasses cannot protect your eyes from the damage the sun’s rays can do to them.
  • Always keep your back towards the sun while looking at a pinhole or a binocular projection.
  • Do not look at the sun directly through binoculars.

Enjoy a spectacular Nyepi!
