A Message from the Chairman of the Board

Dear BIS Community,

The Board has undergone some changes recently and is once again opening up the opportunity for new members.

The Board’s role is to oversee the governance and the strategic direction of the school. This is accomplished through much self-study, meetings and deliberations with peers and other professionals. The position requires a significant commitment of time and energy.

As per the By-Laws of the foundation and the decision of the Governing Advisory Board, there are some restrictions as to who is eligible to sit on the board. After initial screening to ensure the basic qualifications are in place, the Board of Governors will make the final decision as to who may join.

The basic criteria for joining the Board according to the foundation By-Laws are as follows:

  • The candidate must have resided in Indonesia for 2 months prior to applying
  • Either be an Indonesian national or foreign national holding an Indonesian temporary stay visa (KITAS or KITAP), and/or a working permit and tax number (NPWP)
  • Shall be current with any fees due to BIS
  • Shall have no other vested interest (such as employment or other contractual obligation) that might conflict with service on the Board
  • Shall agree in writing to uphold and fully support the BIS Vision and Mission Statement, abide by BIS By-Laws and Policy and respect Indonesian law and culture.

Additional key criteria valued by the Governing Advisory Board are as follows:

  • Understanding of Indonesian bureaucracy / law
  • Understand the role and function of the Board
  • The ability to speak and write Indonesian will be greatly valued
  • Able to devote a significant amount of time to the role
  • Willing to contribute without any expectation of remuneration
  • Committed to putting the interest of the foundation and the school before personal interests
  • Willing to devote time to learn the disciplines related to the role
  • High integrity
  • Understanding of the BIS mission and vision
  • Those willing and able to devote several years of service will be given preference.
