FRIDAY NEWSLETTER from Secondary – Aug 24th 2018
Dear Secondary Parents,
After another shortened week due to the Eid dul Adha holiday on Wednesday, it was wonderful to see so many parents at the Meet the Teachers Potluck evening and thank you to the PTA for organising and supplying the delicious food and beverages to enjoy after the parent classroom visits.
Students will have assessments for all of their subjects in coming weeks. I encourage you to check in with them and ask to view their tasks after they have been graded and returned. It is a helpful exercise for a parent and student to sit down and assess the student work using the assessment criteria aligned to the task. This not only helps to identify areas for improvement next time and to celebrate what the student has done well, but it also builds a common understanding of the assessment criteria being used and what is required to reach the higher achievement levels. Please remember that you can view your child’s performance in each summative task on ManageBac. If you are having difficulty accessing your ManageBac account please email Mr. Erickson at nerickson@baliis.net.
Attendance and Punctuality
It is pleasing to see high levels of attendance so far in the Secondary School. It is very important that students are actively engaged in their learning at school for all scheduled days and lessons, excluding those unavoidably missed due to illness or injury. Please continue to ensure your child/ren arrive at school with enough time to get organised and be sitting in their homeroom for a 7.45am start each day. If this is proving challenging, please alter their departure time from home. From Monday, I will be meeting with any students who are late to school and if this is recurring, I will call their parents to discuss.
EOTC 2018 – Update
Below is the updated staffing lists.
- Gr 6 to Sangeh Village: Mr Watson, Mrs Erickson, Ibu Dewi, Mr Ferris
- Gr 7 to Wangari Village: Ibu Putu, Ibu Ayu Kris, Mr Knudson
- Gr 8 to Nusa Penida: Ms Taylor, Ms Green, Mr Sutherland
- Gr 9 to Mt Batur: Mr Andrews, Ms Alborn, Mr Collins, Ms Staroverova
- Gr 10 to West Bali: Mr Wilson, Ms McLay, Dr Shepherd
- Gr 11/12 to Les Village: Mr Brown, Ms Quinn, Mr Wood, Mr Gokalp, Ms Gerbic
Full details will soon be emailed to parents and each camp will have a parent information session with camp leaders, Mr Sutherland, Mr Ferris, and the camp providers to ensure parents are fully informed. In addition to this, there is a general Parent Information Session for this on Monday, September 17.
Note: Grade-specific EOTC Trip Parent Presentation dates and times will be confirmed by Mr Sutherland.
