Primary Years Programme Exhibition

The PYP Exhibition will commence on Monday 8 April. The Exhibition is the culminating inquiry which is undertaken the final grade level in the Primary years programme, at Bali Island School, this Grade 5.

Our Exhibition will fall into the Transdisciplinary Theme  of How we express ourselves. An inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values; the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of the aesthetic.

The central idea for this inquiry is ‘Creative expression provides many ways to communicate ideas and emotions’.

Summary

  • The exhibition is the culminating, collaborative experience in the final year of the PYP.
  • The exhibition is an authentic process for students to explore, document and share their understanding of an issue or opportunity of personal significance.
  • All exhibitions are student-initiated, designed and collaborative.

The students will present their exhibition on 28 and 29 May to students and teachers from Bali Island School, invited students and teachers from other schools and then to parents on the afternoon of 29 May.

Student Led Conferences

Thank you to the students and parents who participated in Primary Student Led Conferences that were held on Thursday 28 March. It was wonderful to see so many students so confidently talking about their learning (many in thier mother tongue) with their parents from our 3 and 4 year old students right through to Grade 5.  If you have any feedback about the conferences, please email me at primaryprincipal@baliis.net

The Canvas Photos

The Canvas Photos have been arrived in Primary Office this morning & we had distributed it to the classes this afternoon for Preschool, Grade 1 and Grade 2. We will share the rest after the school breaks. The digital copies of student’s photos will be sending to your email soon.

Farewell & Thank You Mr. G

We say goodbye & thank you to Mr. G who has been teaching Grade 5 for the last three months while Ibu Nadia has been on maternity leave. Mr G has worked very hard with our Grade 5 students and Indonesian Teaching Partners to ensure there has been great quality learning happening in the classroom.

What’s Been Happening in the Primary School Recently

Below is a summary of some of the fantastic learning that has been taking place across the school in recent weeks. Teachers post many of these things on their class blogs but by sharing them on the eNews it gives families a chance to see what is happening in other grade levels.

PS and Kindy Mini Swim Carnival

A huge thank you to all the parents, grandparents, teachers and family friends that could make it on Wednesday morning to the BIS pool. We had a fantastic turn out where the students provided a demonstration about what they had been learning in swimming, why we are learning it and the progression these fundamental techniques will play in the development of a life long swimmer. Hopefully families left with some beneficial pointers to help them develop their child(s) progress outside of school.

Grade 2 “My Big Life Board”

Over the past few weeks, Grade 2 has been working on an inspirational project called “My Big Life Board.” Our room parent, Allison Jaquier, introduced this project to the class and the students have absolutely loved it.

These Life Boards focus on promoting a growth mindset, building resilience and fostering positive self-esteem in our classroom community. At this age, students become aware of what they can and can’t do, and these words begin to define them. Children often will not try something new for fear of failing. This project has helped to shift that thinking from self-doubt to self-confidence. With practice, patience and guidance, students are starting to look at obstacles as goals and not as setbacks. They are starting to understand that achievements are not luck, but due to a plan of hard work and determination. A growth mindset is a wonderful thing and it starts early.

Here are a few students sharing their boards:

I think Allison has captured the essence of Life Boards best:

“I was so happy to have the opportunity to visit Grade 2 and work on Big Life Boards with the students! We talked about goals and dreams, and all the things that help us achieve them. While there were some important universal themes such as friends and family, it was most special to see how different we all are from each other! I think the kids learned a lot about themselves and each other, and hopefully they will continue to encourage each other to set goals and not give up on their dreams. Persistence, perseverance and self-confidence are so important, and I really hope they will never lose the willingness to try new things and to work hard for what’s important to them.” – Allison J.

Feel free to visit our classroom to view our fabulous boards and get inspired to make your own!
