Counselor’s Corner (College Admissions) – August 1, 2019

Welcome back BIS families! This year promises to be a wonderful and positive year for all, full of exciting events, growth, learning, and successes. Keep watching this space for upcoming events and deadlines. Here are a few of the early ones regarding College Admissions you should be aware of and add to your calendars :

AUG 5th– Welcome back to school and welcome the College Counseling Center located at the front of school next to the staff lounge. Please check this location for information on college programs, scholarships, internships, college testing, college tours, and special programs offered during summers and school breaks. We receive new content on a regular basis throughout the year and these resources are available to all BIS students and families. Please schedule an appointment with the counselor, Rachael Gerbic, if you’d like a specialized meeting about any of the information stored here: counselorsecretary@baliis.net

AUG 27th: This is the deadline to register for the OCT 30th PSAT. The practice version of the SAT exam used in university admissions in North America provides feedback to students on areas for improvement. Scores are not sent to universities. The cost is 350,000 rupiah and students can register with Indra in the Counseling Center: counselorsecretary@baliis.net

Key dates for Cambridge Assessments needed for Oxford and Cambridge applications:
1 September – Registration opens on the Entries Extranet

15 October – Entries can be made until 18.00 BST. There are NO late entries.

30 October – Test date

Sept. 9th: Grade 12 Parent Session on College Admissions, 8-9AM in the Library

SEPT. 27th: BIS COLLEGE FAIR. Mark your calendars for this spectacular college networking event. We already have 45 universities signed up to visit on this day from 8-11 AM on the covered court. The day will begin with workshops for students in grades 9-12 on various topics including essay writing, finding scholarships, studying in Australia, and careers in hospitality. Secondary students and parents are invited to attend the BIS Fair and speak to university reps from around the globe.

OCT. 1st: World Education Expo will host a second college fair at BIS from 1-4PM with over 20 universities attending. All secondary students and parents are invited to attend this fair.

OCT 14: College Readiness Parent Session from 8-9AM in the Library. This is a general session on college admissions and Q&A for Grade 9-12 parents
