2019 – 2020 Student Family Handbook

Parents are reminded that they can access the 2019 – 2020 Student Family Handbook in the Quick Links section of the Bali Island School website or by clicking here.

Friendship or Buddy Benches

Our Grade 5 students introduced the Friendship or Buddy Benches that they designed and painted at the end of last year as part of the Action from their Sharing the Planet PYP Unit of Inquiry at this morning’s assembly. A group of students explained how the benches will work and performed some role plays. Grade 5 students will visit the Primary classes during the next week to explain more about the programme. Look out for the colourful benches located around the school.

After School Activities

After School Activities (ASA) will commence next Monday 12th August. If you are still to register your child for ASA, please refer to the email that was sent home on Wednesday. Please note that some activities are now oversubscribed so have been removed from the form as the deadline of Thursday 8 August has passed. Final lists will be posted on the board behind the MPR before 3:00 pm today or will be emailed this afternoon.

Religion Classes

Religion Classes for Grade 1 – 5 students registered at the school with an Indonesian Passport will commence at 2:50 pm on Tuesday 13th August.

Uniform

Thank you to all parents who have ensured that their children are coming to school in correct uniform every day. We would like to see all students wearing full uniform, including Bali Island School hats in the coming weeks.

House Team t-shirts & School Hoodies

All Primary students are welcome to wear their House Team t-shirts to school on Friday. Order forms for House Team t-shirts have been sent home with all Primary students today so that the new shirts can be ordered. Order forms with 70,000 should be returned to Ibu Indira in the front office before next Thursday 15 August. Students choosing not to wear house t-shirts must wear their regular Friday uniform (ie PE or regular uniform, not coloured t-shirts).

School Hoodies can also be ordered with House Team t-shirts at a cost of 250,000IDR each. The order forms were printed earlier so don’t include the hoodies, but parents can make a note on the order form or organise with Ibu Indira in the Front Office. Once School Hoodies have been delivered, they  will become compulsory part of the BIS uniform and other jumpers and jackets will not be allowed.

Bring Your Own Device

Just a reminder that we won’t ask students to bring their own devices in until at least Week 3. I have included some details of our proposed BYOD Programme (Click here )  and have hopefully answered many questions. If you have specific questions about the programme, please drop by to see me at school or email primaryprincipal@baliis.net

Counselor’s Corner

Welcome back BIS Students and Parents! I hope you all had a relaxing break and are ready for a wonderful year ahead. Here are a few things to be mindful of as we launch a new and productive school year:

  • We are all here to help you!  Please reach out at the earliest if you find yourselves struggling in any way, have questions, or just need to talk. Appointments can be made with the school counselor, Rachael Gerbic, by contacting Indra at: counselorsecretary@baliis.net or ext. 116.
  • Your safety is our first priority. If you feel uncomfortable in any situation at school or outside of school, with an adult, or a fellow student, please let a member of the Child Protection Team know ASAP. Every classroom and office at BIS has a poster outlining who the child protection team members are and what follow up procedures can be expected.
  • Reach out for academic support. All BIS Teachers are available after school or by pre-arranged appointment to support students with their learning.  If you have any questions, please contact the Teacher directly using his or her first initial and last name @baliis.net.  You may also wish to speak with a member of our learning support team by visiting room 28 near the basketball court.
  • Stay Balanced. Be sure to nurture your whole being by finding calm spaces, taking in as much nature as possible, turning off your cell phones, being present, sleeping deeply, and cultivating mindfulness in everything you do to enhance your own experience and your relationships with others. Be the example you want your children to see.
  • Get involved! Come to our regular Parent Sessions on Monday mornings from 8-9 in the Library. Join our monthly PTA meetings. Attend our fabulous student events throughout the year. Read our ENews, Facebook, and Twitter posts. Be a proud member of our community. Welcome home!

Indonesian Independence Day

We will be celebrating Indonesian IndependenceDay at school next Friday 16th August. All students are asked to dress in traditional Indonesian clothes or with a red shirt and white pants. Parents are welcome to join for the flag-raising ceremony which will start at about 7:55 am and then stay for the assembly and games afterward.

Meet the Primary Teachers

All Primary parents are invited to join us at school from 1:00 – 2:45 pm on Friday 23rd August for our Meet the Primary Teachers event. All parents will meet with the Primary Principal in the MPR at 1:00 pm before going to meet their child’s class teachers who will share class-specific information about curriculum, expectations, and routines. This will also be a time for parents to ask general questions of the teacher. The teachers’ sessions will be repeated to accommodate parents who have children in more than 1 class.
