Counselor’s Corner

Secondary

Social-Emotional Counseling:

Morning Mindfulness:

Students in grades 8 & 9 are starting their mornings once a week with mindfulness during homeroom time. Each week the students learn a new mindfulness technique, developing their ability to focus on one particular thing at a time-sound, sensations, thoughts, feelings, sights, etc., and their reactions to these. Students in turn learn to self regulate and come back to their center when they are triggered by strong emotions, and also learn how to respond thoughtfully, rather than react, to the various challenges in their lives.

Mindfulness skills will be taught to all grade levels throughout the year and we are excited about the addition of 3 mindfulness benches on campus- coming soon! These are places to sit quietly and reflect and students have chosen their favorite mindfulness quotes t be posted on their division’s bench.

A Parent Session is planned for October 14 to explain how BridgeU is used to prepare students for their university applications. This Parents Session is for Grade 9-12 parents.
