Parents are asked to view upcoming events on the BIS Events Calendar

Thank you for the Music

Our Primary production, Thank you for the Music will be performed on Tuesday 3rd (matinee for other schools  & evening performance for parents) & Wednesday 4th March (matinee for our secondary students). We had originally planned to perform the show in December, but have decided to postpone it to ensure that our students are well prepared. Thank you for the Music is an original show written by Ibu Heather and the Primary Production ASA Club that will involve all Preschool to Grade 5 students as they take a journey through time learning about the history of music.

SeeSaw eLearning Journals

All Preschool to Grade 5 parents have now been invited to access their child’s SeeSaw eLearning journal. If you haven’t had a chance to access it yet, please check through your emails or look for the QR code and instructions that were sent home on paper the week before last. A number of families have already added their children’s grandparents so they can access the eLearning journals. If you would like to add grandparents or other family members, please send their email address to the homeroom teacher or primary office so that we can invite them to See Saw. Parents are also asked to keep in mind that there will not be exactly the same number of posts from all students in all classes as we are still learning how to use the platform.

End of Unit Celebrations of Learning

As mentioned previously, we will not be hosting Share Time Assemblies this year, but will instead be inviting parents into End of Unit Celebrations of Learning. Parents will be able to join their child / children to celebrate their learning in the classroom. This may take the form of book shares, gallery walks and presentations. In addition to celebrating your child’s learning in their classroom, some grades will also have Bahasa Indonesian, Music & PE learning to share. Parents are also invited to visit other classes besides their own children to see how learning is looking in different grade levels. Our aim is to host 3 of these per class each year.

All parents are invited on Thursday morning 28th November from 8:00 – 9:15am. Parents are not expected to stay for the entire time, but are more than welcome to do so. Ibu Heather will share details of the  Grade 3 End of Unit Celebration of Learning which will take place in the last week of school.

Primary Written Reports

Primary Written Reports for Semester 1 will be published on Thursday 12th December.

What’s Been Happening in the Primary School Recently

Below is a summary of some of the fantastic learning that has been taking place across the school in recent weeks. Teachers post many of these things on their class blogs but by sharing them on the eNews it gives families a chance to see what is happening in other grade levels.

Music in 1st Grade

In first grade students develop their singing voices and rhythmic skills. They play instruments and move to the beat. Through music activities they learn the artistic, cultural, scientific and mathematical foundations of music. They sing the songs with repetitive words and melody patterns, such as nursery rhymes and folk songs. Others reinforce what first-graders are learning in class, such as songs about their daily life.

Students learn to blend their voice with others by singing in a group and develops their own voice by singing alone and learn to sing expressively, on pitch (high and low) and with correct dynamics (loud and soft) and sing an increasing number of songs from memory and with improved accuracy. The class plays singing games that combine music and movement.

First-graders play musical instruments, such as drums and xylophones, individually and in a group. They work with rhythm to find a steady beat so they will be able to maintain a steady beat as they play instruments alone and in a group. First-graders develop recognition of musical notation as well by read and write simple rhythm patterns.

They also skip, hops, marches, claps, tiptoes and steps to the beat. They make creative movements to music, showing their understanding of rhythm, beat and the feeling of the music. They may make up movements to go along with songs.

Learning Around the Primary School

There has been a lot of engaging learning taking place throughout the Primary School over recent weeks

Shadow Puppet Performance

The Primary students enjoyed a Shadow Puppet Performance put on by the Sanggar Paripurna arts and cultural group. After the show, the puppet masters ran workshops for our Preschool, Kindergarten and Grade 1 classes. This was a fantastic opportunity for all of our students to learn more about Balinese culture and for our Kindergarten and Grade 1 classes to inquire deeper into their units of inquiry on the arts and stories.

If you’ve missed to watch the story of Ramayana Shadow Puppet performance, here is one of Sanggar Paripurna performance on YouTube.
