Counselor’s Corner – May 29, 2020

Social-Emotional Counseling

As we near the end of the school year, please continue to check in on each other.  We are a strong community dealing with a challenging situation and the best way to cope is to support one another.  Please reach out to a friend, a classmate, a parent, an Administrator or a Teacher (or any combination of these!) this week to lend a listening ear and let them know you care.

Use this wheel of emotions to assist you in finding the right words.

University of the week

Sciences Po

Paris, France

Each summer, Sciences Po opens its doors to high school students from around the world for the Sciences Po Summer School. The Summer School offers two programmes: the Pre-College Programme, open to students who are not in their final year of school, and the University Programme, open to students in their final year who will begin university studies in the Fall.

After careful consideration of the global health situation, the Sciences Po Summer School has decided to cancel the first session of the Pre-College Programme and move the second session online for Summer 2020.

While we are not able to welcome students on campus, we are committed to providing a safe and enriching academic experience that maintains Sciences Po’s rigorous academic standards. We would be excited to welcome you to our online global community this summer!

The Pre-College Programme will be held in a remote format from July 20th to July 31st

Academic Programme

The Pre-College Programme gives high school students a taste of university academics through rigorous coursework in the social sciences, which introduces them to the key disciplines and methodologies of a Sciences Po education. Participants explore current international issues from an interdisciplinary perspective through thematic master classes taught entirely in English by Sciences Po professors. Interactive tutorials reinforce learning, while preparing students for university studies through an emphasis on academic methodology. Elective classes, taught in English or French, allow students to focus on one of Sciences Po’s core disciplines (such as international relations, political science, or sociology).

All courses will take place via Zoom in a live, synchronous format to allow for maximum interaction.

You can find course overviews for Master Classes and electives, as well as class schedules, on the Summer School website.

Modification of fees

To reflect the online format, the Summer School will reduce the portion of its fees that are related to physically hosting students on Sciences Po’s campus, accommodation, meals and supervision of the group. The tuition fees for the Pre-College programme have been reduced from 4670 € to 2300 €.

How to apply

The Summer School is open to high school students from across the world. The eligibility criteria and application procedure are detailed on the Summer School website. The application deadline for the 2020 Online Pre-College Programme is 19 June 2020.

We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us digitally this summer. We are currently working with our faculty to transform their courses to offer an exceptional online learning experience, and we are also creating a virtual social and cultural programme to recreate the multicultural social environment of the Summer School.

We hope that you remain safe and healthy, and that we will have the opportunity to welcome your students to Sciences Po soon!
