Message From the Head of School – October 9, 2020

Accreditation is Complete!
I am very pleased to report that the accreditation team has completed the virtual visit, found our self study report to be thorough and comprehensive, agreed with our action plans and confirms that Bali Island School is producing high quality learning experiences to all students through the Distance Learning program. I would like to congratulate the Board, the Faculty and Staff, our Parents and Students for all of your input throughout the reflective process and visit. Well done to BIS!

Ms. McLay, our Accreditation Coordinator, is to be congratulated! Well done and thank you for your leadership throughout the process.

Spirit Week for Primary
Grade 5 students, in their unit under the theme of How We Organise Ourselves, are learning about government structures and leadership. An action the Grade 5 team is taking from their studies is to create a Primary Student Council. One of their first tasks will be to define the Primary Spirit Week. House points will be awarded for the best demonstration of spirit from House participants in Homerooms.

Grade 5 students will define the categories the week after the holiday and Spirit Week will begin on October 26. Grade 5 students, start thinking about Spirit Week!

October 10-18 School Holiday
Enjoy some much needed time away from screens. Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Birthday Celebrations
COVID is challenging us to reconceptualize everything – yes, even birthday parties. I recognize that birthday parties will continue through COVID and that by attempting to celebrate safely within bubbles, some classmates will be left out. Unfortunately, this is a necessary consequence of COVID and we appreciate everyone’s sensitivity in handling this. BIS recommends that all communication via parties and celebrations occurs outside of school hours and through private channels.Ms. Gibbons, our school counselor, together with the teachers will provide opportunities/lessons for children to better understand situations like this. Thank you for your support.

January 11-24
Many members of our community have not been able to visit family and friends for quite some time. In order to allow for our members to travel if they choose, we will provide Distance Learning for two weeks beginning on January 11. This provides all of our community members time to isolate upon return to Bali and maintain the safety of our campus. Thank you for your attention for your family planning.
