Message From the Head of School – November 6, 2020

I am pleased to announce that a voluntary After School Activity (ASA) program will kick-off in the very near future. Mr. Sutherland is currently having teachers create their ASA’s and a sign-up form will be available early next week. Please be on the lookout for that email!

Because it is voluntary and parents will provide permission for their child to participate, we feel we can safely provide these opportunities that will foster connection, healthy activities and allow our community to begin to reconnect.

Please remember that anytime your child is to visit campus, a parent/guardian signed BIS Health Card indicating no signs or symptoms of illness, including a temperature check, has been prepared prior to leaving the house and that an appropriate mask is being used.

BIS Covid Protocol:

  • Health Card recorded and signed daily
  • Mask worn at all times while on campus (unless eating/drinking)
  • Maintain 1.5 m physical distancing

Consequences for not following the BIS Covid protocols are as follows:

  1. Warning
  2. Prevented from returning to campus for the next scheduled activity/commitment
  3. Prevented for a week from returning to campus

Covid has impacted all sectors of the human experience in so many ways. It is not going away anytime soon, so I believe we need to find ways to manage it, rather than it managing us. A Canadian Doctor is quoted as saying “We need to learn how to co-exist with Covid in carefully managed ways”. One way to assist our community is to renew our commitment to full transparency regarding our health status. We must remove any aspect of shame and stigma regarding a positive Covid diagnosis, rather looking to support each and every community member through the challenges of any illness. BIS remains committed to sharing, immediately, the health status of our community as it pertains to potential exposure. I thank you for your commitment as well to consistent monitoring and transparent communication. I also can’t underscore enough the importance for all community members to stay at home should you feel unwell.

A community is as strong as the individual member’s commitment to the greater good.

Enjoy a healthy and relaxing weekend,

Garth
