MYP Reading Challenge!
Grades 6-9 have set up an independent reading program where students can earn house points for each book they read. Mrs. MacDonald, Mr. Howey, Mrs. Erickson, and Mr. Marshall have all worked hard to select books for this semester that are grade level appropriate/challenging. Individual students have worked hard to create their own Semester 1 reading goals.
How it works: For every book students read, they will receive 5 house points! When they reach 5 books, they get a bonus 5 house points. When they read 10 books, they earn a bonus of 10 house points! So, get reading MYP students!

“The People’s Perpustakaan” Project
On World Literacy Day (falling on Wednesday, September 8th this year), BIS was presented with a project for the community spearheaded by the library and the BIS marketing department called “The People’s Perpustakaan”. This project aims to help educate and provide learning/reading resources to the local Balinese community in Sanur and will double as an MYP “Service as Action” opportunity as well. Check out this video and slideshow for more information and for ways you can contribute. As things progress, we will update the BIS Community but please feel free to reach out with suggestions, assistance and general curiosity anytime.

Mock Auditions Workshop by Grade 10 Drama with Broadway Guest Artist
We have been exploring a key component and ingredient of all performing arts – COLLABORATION. This is the secret sauce that makes the magic of performing arts, whether it is drama, musical theatre or any performance.
Students in Grade 10 Drama had a unique opportunity to experience collaboration in action by participating in a live Mock Auditions Workshop with a guest and performing artist from Broadway, New York. Ms. KK was a special visitor to our class sharing her experience from musical theatre auditions in Asia and the U.S., and also gave valuable feedback to Choi, Cynthia, and Sophia who experimented with the roles of casting director, music director, and actor/performer in the context of a real audition. We were also treated to a special performance of the “Satisfied” number from the Hamilton musical!
