French
French students have been extremely productive this first term. From writing short-stories (phase 6)  to creating brochures (phase 4) and moodboards (phase 1), they all put so much effort into learning French. They also worked as a whole class, different ages and phases together, to discover French-speaking countries. The first country they discovered was Morocco, and look at the amazing work they produced while working together, under the supervision of two Grade 9 students, Nina Pecquery and Emma Girard.

Grade 6 Language Acquisition – Indonesian
Grade 6 Emergent levels students have been learning about the introduction and tried to introduce themselves in Bahasa Indonesia by describing their full name, where they are from, their age, their hobby, and what they did during the holiday.

Grade 6 Capable levels are exploring natural phenomena happening around them. They gained knowledge of Indonesian geography; in particular, the main islands & provinces as well as gain an understanding of climate and seasons in Indonesia. As the grammar points, students learned about parts of speech in Indonesian through Kahoot! that is enjoyable and educative to play.

Grade 7-8 Language Acquisition – Indonesian
Grade 7-8 Indonesian Emergent levels students have been learning about sports & games. They learned about popular sports in Indonesia, types of competition, and Sports equipment. The students used their research skills in finding sports and learned how to build more complex sentences in Bahasa Indonesia. Please see the example of works from the Emergent level.

Please see the example of works from the beginner level.

Grade 10 Indonesian Language and Literature
Students in Indonesian Language and Literature class discussed the issue of freedom of speech in Indonesia. We were looking at some political cartoons created by Benny Rachmadi which is published in a book and also in his website. Students were observing the elements, understanding the message, and analysing the visual as well as the text elements. The analysis was fun, as they could choose the political cartoon of their interest and annotate them based on the features discussed in class.

Please see some examples of their analysis.

Spanish
Spanish students have worked very hard this term. They worked on different topics from introducing their family to celebrations, food, and music around the Hispanic world. Some Grade 12 students chose to do podcasts about the festivals and celebrations of Hispanic countries instead of presentations.

Please see examples of work from Ralisha, Jiyoun, Momo  (Gr 12),  Adrien and Yuto ( Gr 11)

Extended Essay Celebration
DP Hour this Thursday saw our Grade 12 students successfully complete and hand in their Extended Essays. This is a huge milestone that they have achieved in their DP journey and is thoroughly deserving of a celebration! The Extended Essay, a 4,000-word research project undertaken in a subject and a topic that the student is interested in, contributes to a maximum of 3 additional points in the DP in conjunction with outstanding performance in Theory of Knowledge.

Our Grade 12 students demonstrated a wide range of interests in their EE topic selection and our 17 IBDP students completed their EEs in 9 different subjects, showing a phenomenal scope of diversity, from Biology to Film and desire to follow their interests.

Well done!

The celebration allowed the Grade 12s to reflect on the process and also offer words of advice to the Grade 11s who will be introduced to the EE at the end of this term. It also allowed us to see which of the seniors had the experience of popping the cork on a champagne bottle!
