Primary Spirit Week – Nov 1st – 5th

The Primary STUCO team has been appointed and we have 5 responsible and dedicated upper primary students who will manage the fun events in Primary school this year. The senior members of Primary STUCO this year are; Lael Kim (gr.5), Jasmine Hoffmann (Gr.5), India Maxwell (Gr.5), Deelisha Verma (Gr. 5), Nika Lazuardi (Gr. 5). Representing other grades, so far, we have Hannah Henry (Gr. 4).

The first event for our Primary STUCO this year will be “Primary Spirit Week”. It will be held on 1 – 5 November 2021. The idea of this Spirit week is actually a fun way to encourage school spirit, a positive culture, and unity among students. The team brainstormed some ideas for the theme of each day and created a survey to get voices from other primary students. Based on the survey, we have got 5 most favorite ideas which become the theme of each day. The details for the spirit day themes are as follows;

  • Monday – Opposite Day + No Bag Day

On Monday, you will come with something that represents the opposite of your personality, i.e. you can wear the color clothes that you never like wearing, or the items of your clothes can be placed in the opposite direction. The special idea on this day is that it will be No Bag Day. Usually, the children come to school with their bags, on this day, it will be the opposite, they need to come with no bag. Be creative and think of a way to carry your belongings.

  • Tuesday – Spooky Day

Tuesday will be a day when the students come with freaky costumes (not too freaky – no blood, guns or weapons) to show how scary they can be. As we have missed the Halloween celebration, on this day, the STUCO team has prepared some activities related to Halloween, such as; Trick or Treat & Temporary Tattoo stand for all primary students. Preschool – Gr. 2 will do it during snack time and Gr. 3 – Gr. 5 will do it at lunchtime.

  • Wednesday – Sport Day

Come in your favorite sporty outfit on this day. It could be related to your favorite sports team or athlete. Let’s see how sporty you can be!

  • Thursday – Crazy Hair Day

Have you imagined coming to school with Spaghetti or colorful hair? Thursday is the day for you to come to school with creative and fun hair. Be as creative as you can! Grade 4 students who missed the Trick or Treat & Tattoo activities on Tuesday, will have theirs on this day.

  • Friday – Pajama Day

Wake up on Friday morning and get ready for school but don’t change! Because…it is Pyjama Day!

The STUCO members will come to each class (see the teacher for an online class) to take photos and choose 1 best costume of the day. There will be 5 winners of the best costume for the week and they will get a certificate and a cute little present. Those who are participating will get 1point each day for their house group.

Cheers,

STUCO Team

Recycling Bins at the Courtyard

Dear BIS Community,

BIS provides a recycling service for our community that was established based on an idea from our Junior Student Council. This service is currently being provided and we look forward to you availing of it. These bins are located in the Courtyard of our school. We have new bags in each bin which will make a collection of the recycling and cleaning of the bins easier.  Parents are asked to sort their recycling into the correct bins and not leave other rubbish lying around the area as it can become unsightly and smelly. Recycling is collected by a company called Eco Bali who provides the school with a small return for the recyclables provided.

The following items can be recycled:

  1. TetraPak (please rinse and flatten before recycling)
  2. Cardboard cartons and boxes (please flatten before recycling)
  3. White paper
  4. Colored paper & newspaper
  5. Plastic bottles (please rinse before recycling)
  6. Aluminum & other metal cans (please rinse before recycling)

Here is another category of Recyclable Items that can be received by our provider, ECO Bali. We have not recycled glass bottles since last year.

An Introduction to the PYP

Thank you to those of you that were able to attend our parent session focusing on An Introduction to the PYP. We took some time to identify our prior knowledge, consider what we wanted to learn about, and then reflected on new understandings focusing on defining the Primary Years Programme, discussing what the PYP looks like at Bali Island School, and coming up with ideas for parents to support their students. If you weren’t able to make it, please find the slides attached here.

Happy Halloween Everyone,

The Kindergarten and Grade 1 students had a spooky-filled day. We had police officers, pirates, witches, transformers, super heroes, pumpkins, zombies, and princesses come to school. To begin our Halloween celebration the students explored the Haunted Halloween garden which Grade 4 created.  The day’s activities did not end there.

Students got the opportunity to decorate a class pumpkin and watermelon and wrote paragraphs about what made their pumpkin special. As they gutted the pumpkin the counted made predictions as to how many seeds were in the pumpkin and then counted them out. There were a total of 102 seeds in our class pumpkin!  As a healthy treat students decorated their very own oranges which they happily took home.

No Halloween is complete without a bit bit of candy though. So to round off our Halloween day the Kindergarten and Grade 1 class made their very own trick or treat baskets. Luckily some of the teachers at BIS were expecting our little ghosts and goblins and had some special treats ready and waiting for them.

It was a great fun-filled day, had by all, and the energy and enthusiasm that the kindergarten and Grade 1s spread excitedly throughout the school in anticipation for next week’s spirit week.
