Message from the Head of School – August 19, 2022

We are delighted to announce that on Friday 26th August, we shall be holding an “Open House”. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to come along to hear about the taught curriculum, hear from subject specialists and allow you to get to know who your child’s teachers are. This event is open to new and returning parents. The Open House will begin at 13:30 in the MPR for our Primary School parents, and at 14:45 in the MPR for your Secondary parents.  The Primary Open House will therefore finish around 14:45, while the secondary Open House will finish around 1700.

As previously mentioned, BIS will, during the course of this year, be formulating our strategic plan for the subsequent 5 years. I invite parents who wish to serve on a committee to send an email to me at headofschool@baliis.net, with STRATEGIC PLAN in the subject line, stating in the email which one of the 8 committees they wish to serve on (see below). This is a wonderful opportunity to work with teachers, admin, support staff, students and board members in shaping the future of the school. We invite parents to who have knowledge, experience or who just feel passionate about an area of school life below, to serve on the following committees;

1. Purpose and direction of the school
2. The student’s learning
3. The student’s well-being
4. The development of global citizenship
5. Facilities and resources
6. School reputation
7. Finance
8. School Governance and leadership

Education Outside The Classroom has returned!! Please make sure that you check your email for the guidance that our Student Life Coordinator, Mr Menendez has recently sent. Students from Grade 4 upwards will be engaged in a series of outside pursuits that are directly related to our curriculum and service as action programme. This is a shining example of our mission of “empowering globally-minded, confident learners to reach their utmost potential in an active, creative and respectful community”.

Our PTA will hold their first meeting of the year on WEDNESDAY 24th in the MPR from 0800-1000. Please do attend if you are available as we our intention is to rekindle the wonderful family and close-knit community that existed pre-covid. We need your support.

Bake Sale-advance notice: PTA will hold a bake sale on Wednesday August 31st, starting at 1445 in front of the Grade 5 classroom. Please come along and support our PTA.

This weekend, to engage in conversation with your child, please ask them which IB learner profile attribute they most relate to, and giving reasons.

Have a lovely weekend, and thank you all for an amazing support at our Independence Day celebrations this week.

Kind regards,
Mike Miller, MA.Ed
