Primary STUCO Update
This year will be a great and exciting year for our BIS community as for the first time after two years we could do face to face learning fully as well as the other community events onsite. Primary STUCO has launched some of the events on their list this year.

We started off by having FUN FRIDAY where we play music for primary students while they are having their lunch. The STUCO members also prepare some fun games to be played by most of our primary students, i.e. musical chairs, red light green light, and many others. The students could also request the song they would like to hear during the break. We are going to continue doing this activity for the rest of the year, yayyy!!

Another big role that our STUCO members have taken this year is to organize and lead the primary assembly. It helps our members to develop their confidence and communication skills as they have to talk in front of a crowd. We have got very positive feedback from the teachers, the students, and even our STUCO members about our first assembly. We are really looking forward to hosting the next and the rest of the assemblies this year.

The fresh event that we might have just finished as you are reading this article is the MOVIE NIGHT. The purpose of this movie night is to raise some funds in order to support some plans that we have this year (i.e. Spirit Week), so we can create unforgettable memories for our primary students and make school a more fun place to learn and play together.

Thank you so much for supporting the STUCO events and please feel free to give some input, ideas, and feedback to our program.

Preschool and Grade 4 Buddies
This term, Grade 4 and Preschool have teamed up to participate in different learning engagements that support our units of inquiry under the transdisciplinary theme: Sharing the Planet. Preschool is inquiring into living things in our care share the same basic needs and Grade 4 children worldwide encounter risks, challenges and opportunities.

Both classes are exploring what the attribute of caring looks like to us. The “buddy” mentoring programme is valuable in promoting this. Younger students develop social skills through their interactions with older peers and older students learn how to mentor developing leadership skills and social skills like active listening and problem solving. In addition, it “feels good” to show that we care about and are interested in each other and what we are learning.

Grade 4 Buddies have read non-fiction texts to their younger friends highlighting key information about the needs of living things and how we can care for them.

Preschool Buddies have grouped together with Grade 4 to teach about what plants need to live and grow as a tuning in to planting seeds in their own gardens.

When asked how Buddy’s learning impacts them? Here are some responses:

  • I like Grade 4 buddies because my brother loves me a lot and I love learning with my brother. (Sunni)
  • My big buddy helped me to read about animals. (Isabele)
  • I like having my buddy because I have never had buddies in Bali before. My buddy is in Jakarta. (Enzo)
  • I like to play with my buddies because I like playing with bigger kids. (Amelia)
  • Working with my preschool buddy is challenging but fun. I have had to think about different ways to get them involved by making it interesting for them. (Ryan)
  • I feel like I am getting quite good at redirecting and problem solving when working with my buddy, because they are new to learning and you have to get them excited about things. I like being responsible for helping them (Emma).
  • When I first started working with my preschool buddy, I was a little worried because he was really shy and quiet. I needed to be very patient and just talk a lot to him and help him. The more we work together the more our friendship grows. (Jihoon)
  • Helping the preschoolers and my little buddy has made me feel more confident as a leader and this has helped me to feel more confident when talking and sharing in class. (Anella)

All primary grades at Bali Island School participate in cross grade level buddy activities, promoting respect and understanding within our learning community and fostering that unique BIS family feeling.

BSSA Football Primary Team 2022
BSSA (Bali School Sport Association) is back this year.

After 2 years of waiting, finally, the BSSA is happening again. This term the team was prepared for soccer. The soccer primary team had 2 teams based on their group category. 6-8 years old team ( from Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3), and 9-10 year old team ( from Grade 4 and Grade 5).

For the 6-8 team they had their first experience in the match against Dyatmika and Taman Rama, on September 8th, 2022 at BIS. They had a couple of matches from 2.30 pm. Overall, they were playing well against Dyatmika and Taman Rama. The kids were working hard to score, passing the ball, defending, attacking, and scoring. Really appreciate how they can be together as a team and work together to make a goal.

The 9-10 team had their regular schedule every week. They were divided into 9-10 girls teams and 9-10 boys teams. They played their first matches at AIS on August 31st, 2022. They played against AIS, they were doing well in the game, sharing the ball, passing, ball control and scoring. In the following weeks they had their next matches at BIS on September 13th and September 14th, 2022., against Dyatmika and Taman Rama team.

Our team was playing so well at their best that the 9-10 girls’ team could make it to the Final and win the title.

Meanwhile the 9-10 boys were doing well also against Dyatmika and Taman Rama at that time, and made their way to the final.

In the Final the 9-10 boys team needed to do extra work in the game and put out all they had at that time. Unfortunately, they could not make it against Dyatmika and Green school. But still they could make it to the final and that was not an easy way to do it. Well done Team!

For the coming up weeks, the primary soccer team will be having a couple of last matches;

The 6-8 year old team will play on September 29th, 2022 for a friendly match.

The 9-10 year old team will play on September 28th, 2022 at Dyatmika also for a friendly match.

We are highly appreciate to everyone for supporting the BIS BSSA team. Please keep supporting us, and please share any feedback, input, ideas to support our BSSA team to be better and better every time.
