Message from the Head of School – September 30, 2022
Recall that our 3-way conferences will be held on Friday 07th October 2022. It is imperative that your child/children attend these conferences so that the feedback is more meaningful and free flowing. Please do ensure that you have read the report card comments which will be released on Friday 30th September. I shall be around the campus ensuring that everything is running smoothly, so please do feel free to stop me and have a chat about school life.
Holiday: BIS will break for the mid-semester break after the 3-way conferences on Friday 07th October and will reopen on TUESDAY 18th for our second term.
Canteen Vienna will open as our 4th and final food provider at Bali Island School on Tuesday 18th October. This will once again add to our food diversity and provide affordable options for our students and staff. Orders may be placed via Google Forms via this link.
Sweaters/hoodies; there appear to be a small number of students who don’t yet have their official BIS ‘hoodie’ or sweater. So that we can reinforce our commitment to high standards, especially so when visiting other schools, may I kindly request that you ensure that your child/children acquire the official ‘hoodie’.
International day is back! After an absence of 2 years, one of our major events on the school calendar is about to return-International Day. For those new to our community, you will find that this day is a shining example of our mission in action in that we celebrate our community being globally minded. On this day, there will be parades, foods, activities and many other events that will help us understand, embrace and appreciate other cultures and increase our cultural capital. The PTA and school will share a detailed agenda soon. This event will take place on Monday 24th October and we cordially invite parents, friends and family to come along and celebrate this wonderful day. The wearing of national dresses is very, very much appreciated!
Pets: while our parent and student handbook stipulates that we are a ‘pet free campus’, (article 3.10, page 22) I understand the joy and feel good factor that animals may bring to our community. Therefore, as a compromise, I am happy for you to bring pets if we can ensure the following. All pets must be carried or on a leash/lead. Pets must NEVER enter the classroom-recall we have food stuffs in many classrooms and we must try to ensure that we uphold hygiene in the classroom environment. I thank you in anticipation for respecting this compromise.
Parent workshops: our counsellor Ms Noortje Janssen will be running another workshop on Thursday October 06th. The theme for this workshop will be Social Media and Addiction. This is an issue that I am sure we are all facing, and we invite you to this workshop to learn about how we can face this problem and work together in educating our children.
